This 1960 photograph of kids playing on the jungle gym at Oak Park School is giving us a serious case of recess nostalgia!

There’s something wonderfully timeless about a school playground: climbing, balancing, laughing, showing off for your friends, and seeing just how high you could get...! 😄

✨🏛️ An awe-some space for an incredible workshop! 🏛️✨

We’re so proud to have partnered with the Confluence Project to host their incredible Glass Blowing & Weaving Workshop here at Two Rivers Heritage Museum!

Over three days, Native artists and community members gathered for hands-on creativity, learning, and connection, exploring the intricate rhythms of weaving and the art of working with glass. What a joy it was to see our museum space filled with creativity, conversation, and community! 💙

A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated, shared their knowledge, and helped make this workshop such a special experience. We’re grateful to Confluence for bringing this opportunity to our community and to everyone who made our museum their creative home for community arts.

🌱🪴 Plant lovers, we have good news! 🪴🌱

We may only have our big Plant Sale twice a year, but did you know you can actually purchase our plants EVERY Saturday? 🌿

That’s right! We’re open Saturdays from Noon–4 PM, and all you have to do is come through our museum doors and let the cashier know you’d like to purchase some plants. They’ll be happy to help you out!

So whether you’re looking to add a little more green to your garden or just can’t wait until the next big Plant Sale, we’ve got you covered every Saturday. 💚

And who knows, maybe you'll even want to take a tour while you're there...come for the plants, stay for the incredible local history! 🌱

🏘️🛤️ Look how far we’ve come! 🛤️🏘️

This photograph from 1901 shows the Camas business block, complete with a good old-fashioned dirt road running through town.

It can be hard to imagine today, but this was once the bustling heart of a growing community. The buildings, streets, businesses, and landscape have all changed dramatically over the past 125 years...and yet, this was the beginning of the Camas we know today.

We love photographs like this because they give us a chance to pause and appreciate just how much our community has changed... and how much history is still right beneath our feet. 💙

When you are shopping at Pendleton Woolen Mills this Saturday, come over across the parking lot and visit us at the Two Rivers Heritage Museum!

in Clark County History: Aug. 26, 1915 — The Vancouver Columbian reported that the Washougal Woolen Mills had been sold to C. P. Bishop & Sons of Pendleton, Oregon, for $8,000 (about $264,489.50 in 2026 value)

The mill had been owned by stockholders of the former Vancouver Trust & Savings Bank, which had taken possession through a mortgage. Charles P. Bishop (1854-1941), already involved with the large Pendleton Woolen Mills in Oregon, had been operating the Washougal plant under lease for about a year and a half before purchasing it outright.

At the time, the Washougal mill was producing blankets and providing work for a number of local men and women. The new owners told the paper they expected to keep the plant operating "steadily."

More than a century later, the mill is still part of Washougal, and visitors can tour it today. Information about mill tours can be found on Pendleton Woolen Mills website.

🏛️👀 It’s SO much bigger on the inside...! 👀🏛️

That's what almost everyone tells us the first time they tour the Two Rivers Heritage Museum, and we agree!

You might not guess it from the outside, we look deceptively small from the street, but 2RHM houses more than 6,000 square feet of local history waiting to be explored. 😍

From time immemorial to today, our exhibits, artifacts, models, photographs, and stories offer something for everyone. Whether you’re a lifelong local history buff or just curious about the place you call home, there’s plenty to discover.

📚🎒 First day of school in Camas! 🎒📚

It’s Camas’ first day of school, so we’re heading back to 1915 for a glimpse at one little girl’s big day!

This sweet photograph shows little Winston Johnson with her mother, Beatrice Johnson, all dressed up for her first day of school in Camas. And if you look closely, you can admire Mrs. Johnson's beautiful hat, a small detail that helps place this moment firmly in the world of 1915. 📸

There’s something timeless about a first day of school: a new outfit, a proud parent, a little anticipation, and the feeling that you’re heading off into something new. More than a century later, we’re still celebrating those same milestones with our kids.

🎙️💙 Stories are meant to be shared, and preserved. 💙🎙️

Two Rivers Heritage Museum has always had a focus on recording and preserving the oral histories of our community. This 2003 photograph shows Bert Hickey interviewing Lowell Bobbitt, carrying on that important tradition of making sure local voices and memories aren’t lost.

And now, we’re taking that work to the next level!

We’re incredibly proud to host the recording space for ECCA’s East County Voices StoryCorps Project, helping create a lasting record of the people, experiences, and stories that have shaped Camas and Washougal. 🎧

📚🏫 Back to school, late 1800s style! 🏫📚

As students and teachers get ready to head back to school, we’re taking a look at this wonderful photograph of the Cape Horn Sky School students and teacher.

More than 130 years ago, these students gathered for a school year that looked very different from ours today. We wonder what they studied, what games they played at recess, and what they thought the future might hold. 📖✨

Historic school photographs like this one give us a chance to see the faces of students who grew up in our community,and remind us that while classrooms, clothing, and schoolbooks may change, some things remain wonderfully familiar.
