Gunn Museum

Gunn Museum The Gunn Museum has been collecting, preserving and sharing the history of Washington, Conn. Orville Platt became our first curator. In 1966 June S.

The Gunn Historical Museum presents an ever-changing view of local history in one of the most beautiful locations in Connecticut. The museum is housed in a 1781 residence overlooking the historic Washington Green in Litchfield County and a national award-winning long-term exhibit about the history of the town is featured in our galleries. Our beginnings date back to 1899 when the local chapter of

the Daughters of the American Revolution opened the Judea Historical Room in the Canfield House on the Green. When the Gunn Memorial Library was built in 1908 the collection was moved across the street into a basement room of the library and Mrs. Willis bequeathed her house to the library and the museum moved next door. Our extensive collection features fine and decorative arts, costumes, artifacts, documents and photographs related to the town of Washington, Connecticut and the villages of Marbledale, New Preston, Woodville, Washington Depot and Washington Green. Come step into the world that was and see it through the images, artifacts and stories of the many people -- great and ordinary -- who have made and make our town a memorable place.

It's that time of year! Happy Graduation to all! Here are Washington High School graduates from 1908 and 1937. Lovely sentiment says it all "Rich gifts I ask be sent to you, Of health and peace and friendship true, Endeavors crowned with great success, And in your heart full happiness". (from Evelyn Gunnarson to Rebecca Gunnarson upon her 1928 graduation from WHS).
