Parker is of a rare breed here in Washington D.C., he’s one of the few artists who work primarily in black and white and he is a native of the District. John has been drawing, painting and creating all his life. He obtained his formal fine arts training from the Corcoran College of Art in the early 80’s. He recently decided to devote his full attention and time to his art after working for many ye
ars in the food service industry and raising a family. His unique style of painting has always stood out in a crowd and his latest series of paintings titled “Dances with Line” exemplifies his talent to make the mundane exciting, stimulating, and full of energy.
“Simplicity in art is what I have always believed in, using the basic elements of art. I start with a basic line and allow that line to flow freely, creating a variety of shapes and patterns and positive and negative spaces. My trademark is incorporating all of the above to convey space and depth. This gives the paintings a three-dimensional feel on a two dimensional surface,” says the artist. John has shown his works in such places as The Watergate Hotel, the Corcoran College of Art, and a number of galleries in the metropolitan area. He was one of three artists selected to design and produce the Christmas tree ornaments for the White House Christmas tree during the Carter administration. Today we witness the re-emergence of a prolific artist who halted his career to raise a family and do it right and is now eager to pick-up where he left off.
