Partnering with artists, curators, and cultural institutions, Transformer serves as a catalyst and a

TRANSFORMER is a Washington, DC based 501 (c) 3 non-profit, artist-centered organization that connects and promotes emerging artists locally, nationally and internationally. Programs and services are designed to help artists grow their audience and patronage while educating them about opportunities for sustainability. With a unique store-front exhibition space at 1404 P Street, NW, Transformer’s E

xhibition Series, consisting of six to seven exhibitions per season, encourages artists to be site-responsive, often producing a deeper and more thoughtful exploration of ideas and solutions to the presentation of their work. Exhibitions run five to six weeks and are organized by Transformer staff in conjunction with participating artists, guest curators, and advisors. Seeking to connect emerging artists with the larger cultural milieu, exhibiting artists are provided increased exposure to peer artists, curators and the local arts community, and are encouraged to: meet collectors at exhibition previews, speak with the press about their work, and participate in organized artist talks with the public.

This 90 minute workshop explores the potential of sequential art as a collaborative process of response and connection. Beginning from marks and patterns created from a partner, participants will pair up to create an interpretive zine, enfolding into a project of collective authorship unique to this group and moment.

Transformer’s Exercises for Emerging Artists annual spring mentorship program acts as an accelerated MFA course for DC area based artists, providing them with intensive, bi-weekly peer and mentor critiques led by local, national and international arts leaders as they create new work.⁠

Focusing on a different artistic discipline each year, the Exercises culminates in a summer exhibition / exhibition series for the public to engage with artworks created through the program.⁠

Artist Raúl Romero’s new solo exhibition “States of Matter” opens at Transformer’s Siren Arts space in Asbury Park, NJ this Saturday, June 20, 2026 with a ‘Community Open House’ 12 - 6 PM⁠, and a ‘Meet the Artist’ Reception 4 - 6 PM⁠,⁠

This exceptional Philadelphia based artist first presented artwork in Asbury Park via Transformer’s 2014 “Promised Land” artist residency and exhibition, which featured site-specific work by twelve dynamic east-coast based visual artists. Curated by Transformer’s Founder & Director Victoria Reis with special grant support from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, “Promised Land” explored a range of current national issues inspired by this ‘city by the sea’. ⁠This residency and exhibition was the precursor to what would later become Transformer’s Siren Arts program.⁠

Following “Promised Land,” Reis and Transformer have continued to collaborate with Romero to advance his evolving artistic practice, including: ⁠

“Before the Law” (2015) - an exhibition of performance, sound and video using Kafka’s parable “Before the Law” as a point of origin to explore tensions between absolutism and relativity; ⁠

“To dream con los cuerpos” (2025) - a group exhibition of work by 6 Latinx artists guest curated by Fabiola R. Delgado at Transformer exploring the physical and metaphysical nature of dreams and how they permeate our lived realities.⁠

Transformer continues its exhibition partnership with the LINE DC to present a compelling new body of work bringing together two interconnected photographic series, Icons and Flow. Icons, developed through a collaboration between photographer Rachel A Sale and creative director John Coplen, reimagines culturally iconic images through the reversal of gender - not as imitation, but as disruption. In parallel, Flow, created by Rachel A Sale, centers on women who embody resilience not as an abstract ideal, but as a daily, lived practice. On view in the G Level Level Lobby of the LINE DC, 2468 Champlain Street, Washington, DC.

Join us for the final reception in this years Collector’s View series at the home of Lauren & Nando Silva-Pinto in Potomac, MD!

Lauren and Luis Fernando Silva-Pinto’s contemporary collection is reflective of their careers as international journalists and a shared passion for art that began in childhood. Starting at age 10, Fernando would ride his bike to the São Paulo Bienal to experience the latest in contemporary art in the burgeoning international art center. Lauren virtually grew up in the Detroit Institute of Arts, where her mother was a docent for 50 years.

Since moving to Washington, DC, they have collected DMV artists such as Tendai Johnson, Luis Silva, Nicole Salimbene and Ruza Spak. International artists include Teresa Esgaio (Lisbon), Patricia Secco (Rio), Candido Portinari (Rio), Aldemir Martins (São Paulo), Marignelli (São Paulo) and Christel Lechner (Germany). A favorite work is a 1955 piece by Huey Lee Smith.

Maps Glover is a DC based conceptual artist with a desire to create and tell new stories through an Afrofuturist lens. These stories weave together the past and the present projecting visions of blackness into the infinite future. ”My work stands as a portal between the past and the future the forms and shapes are familiar but there is always something beneath the surface. Even the creation of “Maps Glover” itself is an experiment in projecting a surrogate being into virtual space. I want my work to be inviting, I want it to pull you in closer and peel back the layers of judgment.” - Glover

Sifu Sun is a creative powerhouse, operating as a manifestation of a higher operating system. Working with sound, acrylic paint, permanent markers, and the physical body, each presentation of work prompts reflection and release for the artist and audience alike.
