I'd like to share five pieces that will be part of my show of abstract paintings,April 9 - 15, 2016, with an opening reception April 9, 6-8 PM at the Dumbarton Concert Gallery. www.dumbartonconcerts.org

The first painting is part of my cathedral series, inspired by the amazing stained glass windows in the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

The second painting is part of the cathedral series.

The third painting is a folding screen, 4ft. height, inspired by the Nazca lines found in Peru. The mystery surrounding them is so intriguing and I love mysteries.

The fourth is one of the Icelandic series inspired by the black lava, contrasting with the ice and snow, mountains ...gorgeous scenery.

The last is another of the Icelandic series .... An impression of the snow flurries we traveled through.

Welcome to my new page. I plan on my page being less static than my website, where I can share with you news and projects, as well as new works and some of my favorites.

My work explores the multiple images that impact and influence our lives, complex and spacious, repeating yet different. A visit to The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona in 2014 inspired the Cathedral Series and more recently, the Icelandic Series, are works emerging from a visit to Iceland. In all my work, my wish for the viewer is to find the quiet spots and rest there while relating to the complexity that surrounds the spaces of respite. The majority of works are acrylic paint on canvas. I have studied art at the University of Maryland, the Yellow Barn in Glen Echo, Maryland, the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia, and Florence, Italy. I have participated in many solo and group art shows in the Washington, D.C. area. My studio, Studio 22, which I share with Tamora Ilasat is on the Monroe Street Market Arts Walk, 716 Monroe St. N.E., Washington, D.C. 20017. The studio is open to the public.

Please visit my website, at www.vanallenart.com for my gallery. Finally, please "like" my page.
