The Birth of a Museum
Richmond County Museum was founded in 1992 at the time of the Richmond County establishing Tricentennial Celebration. Mrs. Jean Light, Chair of the Committee, committed to the Museum and, along with many other committed volunteers and civic leaders, determined to continue it after the Tricentennial. In the beginning, the Museum was housed in the old Clerk’s Office and later it was moved to its present location in the 1872 Jail. It exists through support from Richmond County, the city of Warsaw, many dedicated volunteers, and many, many generous donors. It has been staffed two days a week since 2000 by a gifted Curator and it has served as a model for the birth of similar museums in the surrounding counties in the Northern Neck of Virginia.
