Join us in our mission of exploring the full story of African Americans, enslaved and free, who lived, worked, and whose footprints remain in Fauquier County. AAHA is an organization designed for the purpose of teaching a complete and accurate history of the United States by including the influences of African Americans, Native Americans of both North and South America, and European Americans. ugh our base is in Fauquier County, we have not limited our holdings and interests in this area. history, texts about native Americans and African-Americans. The merging of these peoples has led to the creation of a rich American mosaic. Our primary goal is to document the African experience in and upon our America and America’s interaction with the Africans. Our view of history is uniquely American – a culture of many colors. We teach this history in a non-biased approach that includes all ethnic and cultural groups.

It was moved by Mr. Allen seconded by Mr. Neale that a committee be appointed by the Acting Chairman to plan the route for the additional negro school bus that is to be started at the beginning of this school term. This motion was carried and the Acting Chairman named as this committee Mr. W. D. Neale and the Superintendent.

News from Hurleytown

St. John enjoyed a fine Mother’s Day Service, the sermon being by Rev. White from St. John 16:4.

On our rally Sunday Rev. Tyre gave an excellent sermon from John 12:33. There were visitors present from most of the neighboring churches, Washington and Baltimore. A bus load came over from Jeffersonton. Mrs. Alice Gordon helped with the rally and with the Willing Workers Club.

Mrs. Lillian Jones and Mrs. Mary Moore visited Mrs. Jones’ mother recently.

Mr. C. Davis recently visited Mrs. Belle Smith and Mrs. Catherine Bell.

Freedom Has a Voice β€” Stories Untold Becoming History

In partnership with the Afro-American Historical Association (AAHA), Fauquier Juneteenth Inc. proudly launches the Celebrating 250 Time Vault β€” a living archive preserving the voices, histories, and legacies of Fauquier County through storytelling and community preservation.

This initiative builds upon AAHA’s extensive research and StoryMap documenting African American communities established during the Reconstruction era in Fauquier County. Together, we are ensuring these stories live on for generations to come.

We are calling on:
β€’ Families
β€’ Churches
β€’ Schools
β€’ Civic Organizations
β€’ Alumni Chapters
β€’ Neighborhoods
β€’ Legacy Institutions

If you are part of the fabric of Fauquier County, your story belongs in this Vault.

Participants will be professionally recorded and preserved in the Celebrating 250 Time Vault, documenting:
- Historical roots and beginnings
- The people and pivotal moments that shaped your story
- The legacy you hope to leave for future generations

Selected participants will also receive:

β€’ Potential inclusion in the commemorative Juneteenth video

News from HUME

Mrs. J. Poles is visiting in Harrisburg. Before returning home, he will also visit Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mr. P. Gibbs recently spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. R. Gibbs.

Mr. And Mrs. L. Roberts were happy to have their daughter, Miss Mary Roberts, to spend the weekend with them.

Pvt. Lenza Cook, the son of Mr. And Mrs. F. Cook, is home with his honorable discharge. We are glad to have him back.

Mr. And Mrs. T. Young and son, Thomas Jr., spent the weekend with their mother, Mrs. Ann Young.

At this time the matter of appointing a driver for the colored bus that is to be put on for the middle part of the county came up for discussion and the Board, upon motion by Mr. Neale seconded by Mr. Baxley and carried, decided to give this position to Wesley Washington.
