Plein air study painted on location in rural Bradley County, Arkansas.
Soft overcast light flattened the landscape and created a quiet, muted palette for this old country church slowly being reclaimed by the woods.

“Judge” — an 11x14 oil on linen panel.
A study where realism meets abstraction—soft edges, broken color, and plenty of thick, expressive texture pulling the horse forward through a field of muted tones. Loved letting the brushwork do the talking on this one.

Brothers by the Brook Study
11x14, oil on linen mounted to gator board.

Inspired by my boys exploring a quiet creek near Pagosa Springs. There’s a peace in the wild that’s hard to put into words. I’ll likely revisit this idea on a larger canvas soon.

A Lazy Day – 9x12 oil on linen panel.

Every once in a while, I paint something that just feels too personal to part with. This one’s staying with me. It’s Reiss, one of our labs, in her favorite recliner on a slow afternoon. I framed it today and hung it in my studio — feels right at home here.

After a wonderful month at the South Arkansas Arts Center’s Member Showcase in El Dorado, Arkansas, Hunt at Dawn is back home and now available through my website — robreepstudio.com.

This 16x20 oil on linen panel was shown alongside Church Street Roses, which found a new home during the exhibit. I’m so grateful to SAAC for hosting such a beautiful show and for supporting local artists.

Hunt at Dawn captures that quiet moment before sunrise — a stillness that feels both grounded and expectant. Framed and ready to hang, it’s available now on my site, robreepstudio.com

These two are the coolest people I’ve ever met. Every day they remind me how to see the world with wonder — the same way I try to see it when I paint.

There’s something about the prairie light — wide, bright, and endless.

Still working through ideas from my recent duck hunting trip to Saskatchewan. The landscape was so compelling — vast fields stretching so wide they almost swallowed you. Every morning hunt revealed more of that open country coming to life, and it’s stayed with me ever since.

I couldn’t bring my plein air kit, so I’m working entirely from photos now. Even so, the light, the space, and the stillness are burned into memory.

The Mouth at Moro Bay — 11x14” oil on linen mounted to gator board.
Painted en plein air a couple of weeks ago along the spot where the Moro Bay meets the Ouachita River. I’ve spent a lot of time at this location throughout my life — fishing, camping, and just watching the water move by. It’s a place I keep coming back to, and painting it mid-morning felt like revisiting an old friend.

“Rolling Hills” — 18x24 oil on linen.
Painted from a quiet stretch of southern Arkansas, where the land just seems to breathe. It’s one of those scenes that reminds me why I love painting rural life — wide open light, slow-moving cattle, and a sense of calm you can’t fake.

This original fine art painting is available now at robreepstudio.com.
