#DidYouKnow? . . . that the first stage musical of THE WIZARD OF OZ was produced in 1902 and added many new characters to L. Frank Baum's original story? There was a waitress from Topeka; a streetcar motorman from the same town; a new pet (not Toto!) for Dorothy; two evil conspirators (a Lord and a General); a poet laureate; and a lady lunatic. What were their character names? We'll reveal the official answer, next week! 🧐

#DidYouKnow? . . . that Judy Garland ("Dorothy" in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's film version of THE WIZARD OF OZ) was once interrupted in the middle of a 1967 concert in Hartford, CT, and asked -- by a very little girl -- to sing a special song? (The child had heard all the adults and teens sitting around her, as they shouted out requests for their favorite Garland numbers, and she followed suit!) What song did the little girl request? And what was Judy's response? We'll reveal the OFFICIAL answer next week, so stay tuned! 🧐

✨ It's Fricke Friday! ✨ This month, our Oz historian John Fricke looks at L. Frank Baum's "dark" side in four Oz books -- and shows how the author's approach to the dangers that beset Dorothy and her friends were always written from an ultimately reassuring, hopeful, optimistic (and often funny!) point of view. That's entertainment -- and boy, do we need it now! Great artwork, too, by John R. Neill and Dick Martin! https://ozmuseum.com/blogs/news/dark-oz-i-m-with-frank-and-company

#DidYouKnow . . . that Shirley Temple (as Ozma and Tip) "went to Oz" in the 1960 NBC television adaptation of L. Frank Baum's THE LAND OF OZ? Among her costars were Endora; the voice of Winnie the Pooh; Mearth; the voice of Bugs Bunny; Charlie McCarthy's "mother"; a "Shriner Ballet" dancer from the film version of BYE, BYE, BIRDIE; someone who appeared with Judy Garland in FOR ME AND MY GAL; and someone who danced with Judy on THE MERV GRIFFIN SHOW. What are their real names and what roles did they play opposite Shirley? Stay tuned for the OFFICIAL answer, next week! 🧐

“THE SONGS THAT GOT AWAY” -- FROM OZ

It's a Fricke Friday -- journalistically speaking! Today, John looks back at a seldom-discussed -- and even-less-frequently realized -- fact about MGM's film classic, THE WIZARD OF OZ. Hear all about SIX musical moments, from a chant to a ballad, to a soliloquy, to production numbers, contemplated for (but not used in) the movie! We thoroughly enjoyed this museum! Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
Was hoping to visit at the beginning of the year when I was in Kansas City but didn't have a way of getting to you but have to share this collection from Hiro + Wolf that I thought you'd love: https://hiro-and-wolf.com/
Two of Hollywood's greatest voice actors perform the whole book.
50,600 diamonds put on individually love my diamond art
My son and I went two weeks ago today. It was the best time! I'm going back soon so I can spend more time reading/watching everything. Love that Dorthy is community-conscious. :o)
I spent almost all day in the museum this week, and had a wonderful time! The two curators there were so helpful, and fun to talk to. I also shopped til I dropped in the gift store. (BUT oh so worth it!)😍 I would recommend this museum to anyone interested not just in OZ, but movie making, costumes, and music.
KEEPING OZ SAFE! That's a tapestry (updated for current events) made from a photo of me in makeup as all characters (except Dorothy and Toto) for my Oz audiobook and book covers. It hangs in my studio, and is the backdrop for part of my covid parody video, PURE ISOLATION (Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka). If you need a laugh (and who doesn't?) then take a look. **https://youtu.be/KjFvzEE9gP8**
Are you open? If so what are your hours?
Found in Sunday’s paper!
Hello! We enjoyed our visit there this week! Unfortunately, we only had time to watch one of the documentaries you had running. Could you please tell me which ones you had playing? Thank you!
