Open Source Studios
A Musical Composer’s Playground
Imagine an exotic musical instrument museum, a recording studio, retreat center with a metaphysical library, a live performance venue with great acoustics, and a clean comfortable living space all located together in one of the most beautiful and unspoiled places on earth. Open Source Studios invites its clients to explore and capture the most p
rofound and deepest parts of the human creative experience without giving a single thought to how any of the recording work is being done. Open Source Studios draws its name from creating spaces where Source consciousness and Intelligence co-exist in such abundance that every moment is filled with boundless joy and unlimited exploration. The studio is designed primarily for individual composers and duos, and once they arrive, they have the entire place to themselves and can follow the whims of their creative muses whenever they arise. The large main studio room is lined with an incredible assortment of perfectly set up instruments from all around the world, as well as many completely unique instruments that were made by the studio’s owner, master luthier David Enke. Unlimited amounts of high-rez recording time is gathered straight to digital storage, and the layout is so simple there is no need for an additional engineer to be present at all. The studio property is very peaceful and quiet and is surrounded by lots of wide open spaces, hiking trails, beautiful lakes, and a quaint little mountain town is a short walk away. The town of La Veta is surrounded by 13,000 foot peaks, and day trips can be made to the Great Sand Dunes, Taos, Crestone, and numerous other places of great beauty and interest. The spa aspect of the studio includes herbal teas, nature walks, massages, yoga, tai chi, organic food from an on-site garden, sun-gazing, hot springs, and numerous places to relax, meditate, and simply BE. The studio’s owner, David Enke has spent most of his life immersed in acoustic technology and phenomena, and has first hand knowledge of nearly every aspect of live and recorded music. He is available for any reason during bookings, and can also be commissioned for technical work, pickup installations, and any repair and restoration work that clients may choose to bring with them to the studio. During their stay, clients are invited to observe brand new instruments coming to life in the on-site workshop, with many of them being completely new designs that have never existed anywhere in the world before. These instruments offer artists a chance to record and make samples of sounds that never existed before and use them for their projects. Complete five and seven day studio packages are available for $2,900 and $3,300 respectively. Dietary preferences are to be arranged in advance, and formal meal preparation is available at an additional cost. Amenities include an inversion machine, a reading room, sunning decks, spa and massage services, and hot springs a short drive away. Air travel is easy and convenient into Denver, Colorado Springs, or Albuquerque airports, and transportation can be arranged to and from the studio in La Veta. Scholarships and student discounts are available. Stringed World Instruments as of 9/16/2014
