Museum of Friends (MOF)

Museum of Friends (MOF) M*F is a contemporary art museum, run by artists, endowed by generous gifts of art by artist friends. Opened Thursday through Saturday, from 10 am to 4 pm.

www.museumoffriends.org The Museum of Friends is considered to be the only and first museum of Counterculture art in the Country, by Art in America. The Museum of Friends is located in downtown Walsenburg, about 2 miles east of the first exit. M*F has a terrific contemporary art collection on the 2nd floor, and an open studio space on the 1st floor right on Main and 6th.

In preparation for the annual CCI (Colorado Creative Industries) conference being held in Trinidad later this week - I put together these photos with Brendt's help to illustrate what the Roof & Dick Building (M*F's home) looked like in 2010 when Duckwalls Department Store vacated. The later photographs illustrate the work that has been accomplished with everyone's help especially: History Colorado - the State Historic Fund- the Gates Family Foundation - El Pomar - the RH Rawlings Foundation - San Isabel - CHFA - many private donors - and general operating support with CCI, the RedLine Art in Society and every tourist and visitor who enters to see the first Counterculture museum in the United States. I was just informed that some very inconsiderate person stole the batteries from the rental lift at M*F behind 6th and Main. Just so you know, M*F serves over 4000 visitors a year. We work with local children, people on probation and provide jobs for people who need them. By doing your little minded biopic (meaning just about you) act you have stopped a major project in Walsenburg. We have you on camera and I would suggest you return the battery no questions asked. Also what can you get for it a dime bag on the street. Meanwhile these workers who are amazing and great come from over 6 hours away each week., leaving their families and homes to help Walsenburg.
