Whatâs on my mind, the same thing thatâs been on my mind and in my art and heart the last 20 years, Lahaina and a Lahaina that Lahaina wants.
Free flowing water, food growing in the mountain, MokoUla surrounded by water , Canoes being built on the shoreline, music in the air, a place and a home for everyone, The people of Lahaina shared with me how it is and should be. The ďżźKapuna who represent Lahaina had shared so much with me so much it really is a nitemare to the county, the state, the home owners of sacred land, however you think, Iâve learned to believe , â the future lies in the pastâ. The modern world is just learning that our environment is in danger, Lahaina has been living in danger for years and years. Sugar pulled out and no ground cover was replaced, the town feared mud slides, experienced dust storms, found choked out reefs, experienced run off, was polluted with stagnant streams when the water broke loose. Children played in toxic soil, fish were pulled from rivers filled with pollution that fishermen had never seen. And through all this, every newcomer, every tourist, everyone was welcomed, respected and invited to share and have fun.
Eventually and tragically it came to this, itâs all gone but it isnât, the water still flows underground and surfaces at the shoreline if you know where to find it. The shoreline is still there, the Aina is still there, the ocean is still there.
This area is so special the king and queen made it there home, they welcomed the Haole, the let them build a house just Mauka (inland) where they stayed, the generosity was so great, it still is.
I believe so much was shared with me so as I can share it, not assumeďżź, not have an opinion but share with you the wisdom of the Kapuna. They sat with me , I sat with them, now we all need to sit and listen to them share how it should be. Again,
âThe future lies in the pastâ a message to all, our community and our entire planet.
