𝐍𝐒𝐇𝐀 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫, 𝐆𝐖𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐎𝐋𝐘𝐍 𝐃𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐒, 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐦𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐯𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧. To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence please see her digital map containing the final resting place of 31 Revolutionary War veterans.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐆𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐧'𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭.

"For me, this project was more than something I did to fulfill the hours I need for my National Honor Society (NHS) membership or build up my resume for scholarships, although I have used my hours for both. As a proud descendent of many members of the Long Grey line, being able to honor and document the soldiers of my community has allowed me to serve those who served my country, along with learn more about the veterans. Not only did I have the chance to work with the staff of the Presbyterian Church and Jerusalem Cemetery (shout out to Ms. Carolyn Barrett and Mr. Matt Murphy for all their help!) but I got to learn even more through the Voorheesville Public Library's collection of letters from our local veterans. This project is certainly a work in progress, but I am excited to share it and I cannot wait for it to be all polished!

"As for using my hours, I can submit my project hours to NHS to fulfill my membership requirements, along with some of them to my guidance counselor to fulfill part of my required hours for graduation. In addition to academic requirements, documenting my work on scholarship applications allows me to demonstrate my commitment to my community, country, and service to others. This project has been instrumental in building my character and teaching me the value of my service to my community."

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐲 𝐜𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝.
I enjoy watching the wind play with a field, but the patterns made by the disc mower are just as engaging. The tableau reminds me of a stereograph I saw recently that was once owned by Susan Slingerland Shear (1864-1953) of Feura Bush. A descendant was kind enough to show me her collection.

Out of all of the images, from around the world, the one depicting a massive team of horses pulling a harvester took my breath away. The stereograph is labeled "Evolution of the sickle and flail--33-horse team combine Harvester, Walla Walla, Washington, USA. Copyright 1902 by Underwood & Underwood."

Just like Susan once did, I stare at the scene of seemingly color-sorted horses walking in unison up and down a rolling field and wonder. What were the sounds and smells? What did it feel like to the riders? What were the lives of all depicted like?

On this History Hump Day take a moment to ponder landscapes past and present.

We had a great time hosting Senator Patricia A. Fahy and Assemblymember Gabriella A. Romero in historic Clarksville. It was a beautiful day to ride with new friends from Albany Social Cycling and Capital Bicycle Racing Club. Many thanks to Clarksville Historical Society and Sons Deli Clarksville, NY .
