Blacksmith Rhythm

Keep the rhythm of the hammer,
the anvil ringing true.
Keep the fire glowing red,
the iron softening too.
Keep the tongs from slipping,
the metal shaping too.
Keep the rhythm of the hammer,
the heart of a blacksmith true.

Hey, friends! One of the Adam's Forge smiths, Elliot Abrego, is now working in Escondido (he's a chef). He's still looking for housing in North County- 1BR/1Ba (standalone, or the same in a shared situation). Anyone looking for a tenant? Anyone know of anything out there? Please PM Elliot!

Once he has housing squared away, he'll be able to join in smithing.

Thanks for any leads!

Need to sell some tools that I can not use any longer. First up are this swage block and Swedish paragon Cast Steel Anvil. The swage block is approximately 168lbs and the anvil is 130 lbs. I am asking what I paid for them. $750 each. They go on ebay next month. So let me know if there is interest.
Industrial Metal Supply is having a remnant sale Thursday thru Saturday. Scrap steel is 29 cents/pound.
Thanks to all of our competitors in the Forge & File competition! The guys put out some really great work! Congrats to Dave Maurice for making the winning knife! I look forward to the next competition at the June Tractor Show!!
I'm sooooo bummed out. How could I go so long thinking my handle went the other way without the hole??? During the last month I've been working on my first level 2 blacksmithing project while spending a lot of days and nights with my mom so the rest of the family can work. Lucky me I do not work outside them home (I'm a kept woman my hubby and I like to say). A lot of my friends and family know my mom has been in and out of the ER and hospital for a long time. Almost 4 months with different issues related to procedures for her heart. So today I'm feeling really productive and getting to the finish of my hammer head. I even heat treated it and polished the hammer heads to 400 grit sand paper. I drop the hammer head onto the handle and yes, I'm sooooo bummed out.
Well for any of you that attended this monthโ€™s cork screw workshop and had to use Bethโ€™s sexy round jaw pliers (yes I just called a tool sexy) With over 20 years as a Diesel Mechanic tools are just a part of my life and I just get excited with tools and tool design. Anyway, I found these pliers at McMaster-Carr, same place Beth ordered the steel for the project. If you donโ€™t see them under the hand tools or pliers section, just search with round nose or round jaw pliers. I purchased both sizes just in case I need very small jaws.
Here is a little closer look at the supporting leg joint of my ring stake organizer for the dog club.
Here is a little closer look at the ring joint of my ring stake organizer for the dog club.
Thought Iโ€™d share this simple project I did for dog training club. They needed a way to organize the ring stakes used to make the various competition ring perimeters used for each event during a competition. I came up with this simple design. To connect the ring and right angle support I drilled a 3/16โ€ hole in the main shaft and then drew out the 3/8โ€ square stock to @1/8โ€x6โ€ and then threaded it through the holes and wrapped around the main shaft. They liked it and it successfully satisfies their need.
Here is the picture for the railroad rail.
Here is the picture for the anvil
I have started getting the extra equipment out of storage and will give local blacksmiths first shot before going to ebay and craigslist. Up first I 130LB Paragon / Soderfors anvil $700, Next two 40 and 45 LB post vises $145 each. and last for this round 6FT railroad rail. $200. I will be at the level II class or at the Penannular Cloak Pin class. If you are interested in anything here contact me and I put it in the truck and you can take a look. [email protected]
Here's a cool photo taken of me at the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum. This picture was taken by Barbara Altevers.
