Rockets launched and Eagles landed at the museum today! 🚀🦅

We welcomed students from Veva Blunt Elementary and Linwood Elementary for a day of exploring Tulare County history through the museum’s exhibits and historic buildings.

The museum was filled with curiosity, great questions, and plenty of “3rd Grade Rockstar” energy along the way. ⭐

We loved hosting the Rockets and Eagles!

Happy International Museum Day from the Tulare County Museum! 🏛️

Today, we celebrate the power of museums to bridge gaps and bring people together. Established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums, International Museum Day recognizes the important role museums play in preservation, education, and cultural exchange around the world.

This year’s theme, “Museums Uniting a Divided World,” highlights the ways museums can connect communities through shared history and understanding.

At the Tulare County Museum, we are dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich cultural heritage of our region and the many communities that helped shape Tulare County. From historic buildings and artifacts to exhibits and educational programs, our goal is to help visitors connect with the diverse histories that make our region unique.

We’re honored to preserve and share local history with our community every day.

May is Historic Preservation Month and International Museum Day is just around the corner! 🏛️

Today, members of the Museum Alliance of Tulare-Kings Counties were recognized by the County of Tulare and Kings County Boards of Supervisors with proclamations honoring the important role museums play in preserving and sharing local history.

At the Tulare County Museum, preservation takes many forms - from caring for historic buildings and protecting artifacts, to sharing the stories that connect us to them.

Every preserved object, exhibit, and structure helps keep a piece of our region’s history alive for future generations.

You couldn’t even dial a number on this.

National Telephone Day ☎️

Before dialing a number, you had to make a connection.

This Western Electric Model 317 wall telephone (c. 1911) used a hand crank to signal an operator, who would then connect your call. Phones like this were often shared, serving as an important link between households and communities.

A simple call once took a little more time and a real person on the other end of the line.

Have you ever seen a phone like this before?
