Nevada City Emporium and Star Bakery
Nevada City Emporium (on right) is a early 1880’s squared log building that came from the Bishop Ranch near Dillon. The front was rebuilt to resemble the original Nevada City building on this site.

Taxes 1864
The first income tax in the United States was legislated during the Civil War. Alder Gulch could not escape it. Attached is a tax roll from December 1864. It covers mostly Virginia City but also lists people from Nevada City. The occupations listed in Nevada City include, jeweler, butcher, cabinet maker. Other tax roll pages from December 1864 list tailor, tin and copper smith, boot and shoemaker, gunsmith, photographer, retail liquor dealer, retail dealer, blacksmith, and eating house.
