Join Island historian Liz Villard for a guided walk through Old Village Graveyard, where more than 250 years of local history lives in the names carved into its headstones. Explore the stories of early residents and the families whose lives are woven into the town we know today.

What does Tribal sovereignty mean — and what responsibilities does the United States hold toward Tribal Nations?

Join us tonight for “Wampanoag Sovereignty, Relationality, and Responsibility,” an online lecture with Brad Lopes (Aquinnah Wampanoag), Education and Public Program Manager at the Aquinnah Cultural Center.

Through key historical moments and the continuing experience of the Wampanoag community, Lopes will examine the systems that have challenged Tribal sovereignty, as well as the enduring resistance, persistence, and survivance of Wampanoag people.

Final days at Edgartown Lighthouse!

Make time for one last visit this season: the lighthouse will be open this Friday, 10/9, from 12–4 pm and Saturday, 10/10, from 10 am–4 pm.

Following Saturday’s hours, Edgartown Lighthouse will close for the season. We look forward to welcoming visitors back in spring 2027.

From the Collection: Beginning in the 19th century, Deaf students from Martha’s Vineyard traveled to Hartford to attend the American School for the Deaf.

25 Island students attended the school, forming relationships with members of a wider Deaf community beyond the Vineyard. They brought signs learned at home to Hartford and returned with American Sign Language, creating connections between languages, communities, and generations.

Last chance to see "Inside the Edit: Dolores Allen Littles, Time-Life, and the Island" before it closes this Sunday, October 4.

Oak Bluffs resident Dolores Allen Littles built a remarkable career in the Time Inc. photo department, rising from the clip desk to photo editor and later Director of Photography at Time-Life Books. At a time when few Black women held roles like hers, Littles helped shape how millions saw the world through LIFE magazine and Time-Life Books.

Through her story, explore the photographers, editors, and Vineyard community behind this influential visual world.

A little mist only adds to the atmosphere.

Today at 4pm, join Island historian Liz Villard for a walking tour through Tower Hill Cemetery in Edgartown. Also known as Old Town Cemetery and Green Hollow, Tower Hill holds 17th-century graves and the stories of some of Edgartown's most memorable residents.

With fog settling in after the Nor’easter, it feels like a particularly fitting evening to explore this remarkable piece of early Island history.

Tower Hill Cemetery is off Tower Hill Road near Katama Road and Katama Bay. For GPS, use 191 Katama Road, Edgartown.
