Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society Museum Our Official page

VHAS is a 100% volunteer-run, independent, non-profit museum. Landis, who was a life member of the organization.

Our vision is to be the leading cultural organization that preserves, promotes and shares Vineland’s amazing history through innovative programs and events. The Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society is the oldest local historical society in New Jersey, headquartered in the oldest purpose-built museum in the state. It was founded in 1864, just three years after the town of Vineland was established by Philadelphia attorney Charles K. Our collections include 19th century glassware, art, musical instruments and photographs, as well as Native American artifacts and Civil War memorabilia. The First House ever built in Vineland (in 1862) is located on the grounds of the museum and is available for tours. The Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit that relies on donations and financial support from the community. Location: 108 S Seventh St, Vineland, NJ 08360

A recent donation that required some detective work...according to the 1962 article in the Times Journal, the first memory tree was planted on the grounds of the Woman's Club when it was located on Seventh Street. We also discovered that Daisy Gilbert Mitchell and her mother, Mrs. Mary L. Gilbert, were life members of the Historical Society!

The Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society, the oldest local historical society in , founded in 1864. Their Georgian style headquarters was built between 1910 and 1911 on land purchased through the generous donations of John S. Shepard, Daniel F. Morrill, and Charles K. Landis. The Society remains very active in this building, with rooms full of displays and programming space. The society's grounds are also home to Vineland's first home, constructed in 1862.
