We hope to see you next week, Wed. 6/24, at 6pm in the Library!

Please join us in welcoming James E. Francis Sr. on Wednesday, June 24th at 6pm in the Library for a presentation on Penobscot place names!

James E. Francis Sr., Director of Cultural and Historic Preservation and Tribal Historian for the Penobscot Nation, will be presenting "Penobscot Sense of Place." Come learn about the first languages of this land, the place names that still surround us today, and their connections to geography and Wabanaki culture throughout thirteen thousand years of indigenous history in Maine.

This event is part of a larger exhibit on display at the museum this summer entitled Holding Up the Sky: Wabanaki People, Culture, History, and Art. This installation is on loan from Maine Historical Society of Portland and was written, advised and curated by Wabanaki historians, cultural leaders, and artists.

Hosted by Vinalhaven Historical Society and Friends of the Vinalhaven Public Library. Refreshments to follow!
