The Pine Mountain Gold Museum at Stockmar Park is a unique historical site with a museum, actual mining sites, nature trails and gold panning all at one location. Experience gold mining techniques spanning over 100 years beginning in the 1820s through the early 1930s. We are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and awarded the Southern Arc's Best of 2008 "Best Tourist Attraction" and the Carroll County 2009 Preservation Award. We were also the site for the filming of Robert DeNiro and John Travolta in February 2012, for the film "Killing Season" due out in 2013. We have a bevy of opportunities to volunteer and cater to your strengths, skills, and likes. We are mostly volunteer based and can use any assistance including tour guides, research, administrative, cleaning, organizing, event assistance, gardening, etc. Let us know what you like to do, and we can find a way to include you!

PRESS RELEASE FROM MAYOR GIL MCDOUGAL - SUPPORT FOR VILLA RICA POLICE DEPARTMENT

CITY OF VILLA RICA
OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
GIL MCDOUGAL

June 23, 2020
For Immediate Release

PRESS RELEASE

In light of recent events that have occurred in Atlanta and throughout our nation, I feel it necessary to make a statement on behalf of our police officers here in Villa Rica. I want to state in no uncertain terms that I support our officers in their efforts to preserve the peace and protect the public. Without their efforts our community would not be as desirable a place to live as it is now. Our police department and officers need to know that they have my support, the support of the council, and the support of the public whom they serve.

Much attention and effort is given to training our police force in Villa Rica. That training, along with prudent management and strict adherence to the standard operating procedures for the Police Department, is designed to prevent the occurrence of some of the horrifying events we have seen captured on video in the past. I, like all right-thinking people, abhor the scenes of gratuitous violence displayed in those videos. However, in no way should those instances tarnish the reputation of our local police.

As we move forward during this time of great uncertainty, I want to emphasize my support of the Villa Rica Police Department in carrying out its mission. The City will stand behind them as they perform their duties in the manner which is expected of them.

Gil McDougal
Mayor

PINE MOUNTAIN GOLD MUSEUM HAS OFFICIALLY BECOME CERTIFIED AS WILDLIFE HABITAT BY THE NATIONAL FEDERATION OF WILDLIFE!

PRESS RELEASE: Villa Rica, Ga. (June, 2020) – Pine Mountain Gold Museum is very proud to announce that our site has officially become certified as a Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. Our certification number is #246621. This certification is intended to recognize facilities that are committed to sustainably providing the essential elements of wildlife habitat. Staff at Pine Mountain has worked diligently toward this goal since 2016.

Certification criteria is based meeting five different criteria including: providing 3 types of natural food sources, providing 1 source of clean drinking water, providing 2 types of shelter, providing 2 places for wildlife to bear and raise young, committing to use 3 types of sustainable practices (soil + water conservation, controlling exotic species, organic gardening.)

A plaque acknowledging this important environmental distinction will be on display at the Museum shortly. In addition to National Wildlife Federation wildlife habitat certification, Pine Mountain Gold Museum is also registered with The National Pollinators Garden Network.

Staff is also pursuing further certifications for our forest at the state and city level. Additionally, biodiversity cataloging of the flora and fauna at Pine Mountain Gold Museum is currently underway. To date more than 130 different species have been recorded, and we are adding new species every day. Each certification that our site achieves further increases the value of Pine Mountain Gold Museum’s unique natural resources to the community!

Staff harvested 50 pounds of honey from the Pine Mountain Apiary this morning!

Remember: A hive's bees fly at least 55,000 miles per pound to produce 1 pound of honey. That means the honey we harvested this morning represents 2,750,000 miles traveled by our Pine Mountain bees!

Are dogs allowed to walk the trails?
Love this place and the history behind it !! Save our wildlife
Sounds like spooky fun
The train is much better this year, but the young brunette loading the train was rude to my kid. She could learn a little better way to speak to the paying people loading the train. Telling people to sit in the front is simple, no need to be so rude about it.
Had an amazing time today with my baby .. and we was able to get a private tour of the original homestead and the mining caves . Due to me not being able to make the trails due to my knee and I appreciate it all from the bottom of my heart
Hi! I have just heard that Eeyore is being taken off exhibit? He is a family favorite, of many, actually! What can we do to keep him? Thank you.
Rip Brown Bunny.
Is the train running tonight (Friday Dec. 7th)?
So sad about tonight’s cancel, this was the only time we could come. And next Tuesday’s cancel. Maybe next year, hate to miss.
Justin Sanders Tricia Sanders Maybe a Saturday adventure?
I enjoyed wandering the trails today but found them to be very confusing and poorly marked. I would recommend that a professional be hired to properly blaze the trails, produce a keyed map and establish better signage so that visitors can easily find their way back to the parking lot regardless of where they are on the trails AND trails that dead end should be clearly marked at the head of that trail.
