A very Happy and Safe Thankgiving to all!!

The holidays are a wonderful time to share the gift of food with loved ones. They're also a high-risk time for home cooking fires. To keep your family safe, AOS recommends the following cooking tips:

Turkey Fryer Safety: Place fryer outside on a level surface. Carefully gauge the amount of oil used or as the NFPA suggests, use an oil-free fryer. Make sure turkey is completely thawed and dry. NEVER leave it unattended.

General Cooking Safety: Keep an eye on what you cook, always stay alert and keep flammable items away from heat.

GREASE FIRES: Always keep an extra pot on hand. Turn off the source of heat and DO NOT pour water on it. Cover the fire to remove the oxygen.

OVEN FIRES: Turn off the oven and allow the fire to burn out on it’s own. If it goes out, open the windows before opening the oven as there will be smoke.

IF THE FIRE DOESN’T GO OUT: Remain calm, leave the house and call 911. If possible, close the door behind you to contain the fire.

Follow and share these tips to keep the firefighters out of your kitchen this holiday season (unless they're there to eat!) AOS wishes you and your family a Happy Turkey Day! (Photo courtesy: IAFC)
