Watercolor Values Workshop
Instructed by Lilly Gummerson

A beginner watercolor class using still-life to explore the ways that watercolor can be used to create values. Participants will experiment by creating different values using more/less water, as well as experimenting using monochromatic, analogous, and complementary colors to create values.

Film Description:

Partly mystical, partly absurd, this early film by Werner Herzog evokes the chimerical visions of a desert mirage, re-framing and making strange different documentary images of life and decay in the Sahara. Film historian Lotte Eisener reads a Mayan creation myth and unlikely musical choices further twist and confuse our sense of place.

Before the screening, guest speaker Ryan Tracy, PhD—artist, writer, and scholar—will introduce the film with a presentation titled "Landscape Abstraction: Werner Herzog Against Himself," followed by a post-screening discussion. Light refreshments provided. Donations appreciated.

Plushie Keychain Workshop

Embrace the handmade and sew a unique plush keychain or bag charm by hand. In this workshop, participants will practice working with fabric, needle, and thread to construct simple stuffed forms that can be carried anywhere.

France Rreally is an artist and filmmaker. His interdisciplinary practice explores anxiety around systemic collapse—whether societal, ecological, or bodily—to create a language for experiencing the immaterial. He has shown and performed his work around North America and Europe including at Anthology Film Archives, Dia Beacon, Millennium Film Workshop, BRIC Arts Media, the Hudson Valley Museum of Contemporary Art, and various film festivals such as the Mono No Aware Festival of Cinema, Film Diary NYC, Fringe! Q***r Film and Arts Fest, and Cactus Club Independent Film Festival. He has been an Artist in Residence at Arteles Creative Center (Haukijärvi, Finland) and Casa do Xisto (Maciera de Rates, Portugal). He has been a volunteer at the collectively-run microcinema Spectacle Theater in Brooklyn, NY since 2019. He lives and works in New York City, where he is always becoming and re-becoming himself.

2026 KINOSAITO Annual Community Art Benefit Open Call

KINOSAITO is excited to announce our open call for the 2026 KINOSAITO Community Art Benefit! Artists at all stages of their careers, from the Hudson Valley and beyond, are welcome to apply to take part in this special event. With this 6-day exhibition, we aim to highlight the wealth of talent, skill, and artistic ability that can be found in our local community.

It’s that time of year again! KINOSAITO is now accepting submissions for our 2026 Community Art Benefit! All artists, from the Hudson Valley and beyond, are welcome to apply to have their work included in this 6-day exhibition.

We are thankful for the love and support our community has given us, and we want to continue working together to maintain a space for artists of all disciplines to create. The selected works will be exhibited salon style at KINOSAITO, with sales encouraged, though not guaranteed.

We will host an opening reception on December 12th, with refreshments and a musical performance. This event is an opportunity for artists to show and sell their work – a fundraiser for the artists and KINOSAITO as we head into our sixth year of operation. For pieces that sell, the artist retains 50% of the sale price, and KINOSAITO accepts the remaining 50% as a donation from the artist.

Landscape Art Today: All Day Long Panel Discussion

KINOSAITO presents an afternoon panel discussion featuring artists Elizabeth Hazan and John McAllister, who are featured in KINOSAITO's current group landscape exhibition, All Day Long, along with the show's curators, Katrin Lewinsky and Sarah Greenberg Morse. Moderated by art critic David Ebony, the panel will explore issues and ideas related to making contemporary landscape art, ranging from traditional inspirations to modern abstractions, as well as climate change, practical challenges, and individual processes.

KinoSaito: Immersive Environments Workshop

Join us at KINOSAITO on Sundays in October for our Immersive Environments Workshop! Participants are invited to join us in creating our very own collaborative art installation, inspired by the work of John McAllister and Jack Arthur Wood on display. Each week, participants will be able to create and add their own painted element to our community display, and at the end of the month our beautiful creation will be revealed!
