Our feet are tired, but our hearts are FULL! 🧡🍊🎶

What a way to kick off a new season at The Heritage Center!

In one incredible weekend, Vero Heritage celebrated the rich history of our community at the 2026 Pioneer Family Dinner, honoring the Haffield Family, AND filled our historic hall with music and fellowship for the first concert of our eight-month Heritage Bluegrass Music Series!

From honoring the families whose roots helped shape Indian River County to bringing generations together through the joy of live music, this weekend was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do.

Preserving our past. Celebrating our community. Creating traditions for future generations.

To our board, staff, volunteers, committee members, sponsors, musicians, families, and everyone who joined us—THANK YOU! These events take countless hours and many helping hands, but seeing our community come together makes every minute worthwhile.

If this weekend is any indication of the season ahead, we’re in for something special!

The USDA issued its first citrus crop forecast of the 2026-2027 harvest season today with 10 million boxes of oranges, down 23 percent from last season; 1.3 million boxes of grapefruit, down 4 percent from last season; and 450,000 boxes of tangerines and tangelos this season.

Join us Friday, October 9th at The Heritage Center for Coffee with Laura Moss at 8 AM, for updates on Septic to Sewer and Amendment 3. The morning will also feature guests speakers from The Samaritan Center to discuss the upcoming Samaritan Soup Bowl event and Art Club with information on the Fall Fine Arts Festival.

Then stay with us for the Indian River CARES meeting at 9 AM!

Complimentary coffee, breakfast treats, community updates, and great conversation. Everyone is welcome—we hope to see you there!

Happy (fiscal) NYE! The Heritage Center and Indian River Citrus Museum is closed today as we prepare for our next fiscal year. 2026-2027 is going to be a BIG year filled with new and old traditions, beautiful citrus inspired items in the shop, incredible programs and major renovations! We can’t wait! See you tomorrow. 🧡🍊😎

For more than 30 years, the Soup Bowl has brought our community together for delicious soup, beautiful handmade pottery, and a whole lot of heart — all while supporting local families experiencing homelessness.

🍲 20+ locations will be serving soup throughout the day!
🥣 $5 suggested donation for a bowl of soup
🥡 $15 suggested donation for a quart to take home
🏺 $20 suggested donation for a beautiful handmade pottery bowl

🍊🗣️Our “Chatty Docent” Strikes Again!

A while back, a travel writer from The Boston Globe visited the Indian River Citrus Museum and affectionately referred to our Kathleen as the “chatty docent.”

Kathleen has worn that title like a badge of honor ever since—and today, she was absolutely tickled when a visitor left her this note:

“Kathleen is amazing. She can make a photo come to life, the way she explains it. She is amazing.” 🧡

And that pretty much sums up Kathleen’s style.

A museum is filled with objects, photographs and dates—but it takes someone who knows the stories behind them to make history come alive. Kathleen does exactly that, one conversation (and perhaps a few extra stories) at a time.

We love our Chatty Docent, and apparently our visitors do too! 🍊🧡
