Just a reminder that Sue Livers will be delivering her second program on Black History on August 16 at 3:30 PM. This session will be solely about Jennings County history going back to the 1800s. We will have an ice cream social at the end of the program; hope you can join us!

Mark your calendars for two upcoming programs featuring Sue Livers, Black History historian and first-person interpreter, presenting “Exploring the History and Legacy of Slavery in Indiana” at the Jennings County Historical Society in Vernon, Indiana.

Mrs. Livers' quest to gather and present the history of slavery in Indiana was forever influenced by the opportunity to meet and converse with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.. Mrs. Livers, who was inducted into the Madison Hall of Fame in 2022, also portrays Mrs. Patsy Harris who led many enslaved people to freedom through Madison in the 1800s.

These are sessions 2 and 3 of a three-part program sponsored by Indiana Humanities in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Arts.

🥧🥧🥧 We still have frozen apple, cherry, and strawberry rhubarb pies for sale! Freshly made for the Sassafras Tea Festival and then frozen, they are now $15 per pie. Visit us Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM to get your delicious pie and support the Jennings County Historical Society! 🥧🥧🥧

Thank you again for joining us at the 64th Annual Sassafras Tea Festival & Civil War Living History this past weekend! We sold 700 delicious homemade pies…but didn’t sell out!

We will be open this week on Thursday 4/30 and Friday 5/1 from 10 AM to 4 PM to sell the pies we have left. Flavors available are spring fruit, apple, and cherry. They were baked fresh and then frozen yesterday and are $15 each. 🥧

The Museum will be closed on Wednesday 4/29 for cleaning.
