Large case #2! We got some new OLD showcases from Sargent County Museum in Forman (if you've never been you MUST go see it. They do an amazing job down there!) That they got from the Ransom County Musem at Fort Ransom (also a neat place to vudut!). The cabinets themselves were toast, but the doors and fronts were in great shape. Lance Drevecky got the first pair repurposed into the front of the museum where they look like they've always been there.
Wes took it upon himself with a crazy notion that another pair of showcases could be fit in under the ductwork in back where once upon a time The Fair Store had its changing rooms. Wes isn't a carpenter by trade but he's done a few things over the years and so he got to making measurements and eyeballing things and with a couple trips to the lumberyard and hardware store got the necessary goodies to make something happen!
Getting some spilled paint off the bases and spitters of paint from over the last 120 years without completely refinishing everything, and modifying things with a 2x8 14 feet long to bump it up tight to the ceiling.
About two weeks off and on with strange sounds and smells emanating from the laboratory/workshop, Wes had the help of Reed McConnaughey and new volunteer Caleb Beard, to get everything up and start reassembly in place. The worst was the top pieces as it was a very VERY precise fit. All-in-all, it went together remarkably quickly and well and looks amazing in its new spot.
There are parts for something else to be made but that might wait till later.
Looks good guys!
