Today we celebrate Juneteenth (June 19th), a day of reflection and rejoice as we honor those who paved the way for freedom. Juneteenth is considered one of the oldest continuing African American holidays, and it marked the first day that enslaved Black people in Texas experienced freedom. Juneteenth reminds us of the struggles Black communities have endured to rebuild their lives and claim their freedom as a right, not a privilege.

Today in Black History: Sarah Vaughn 2x Grammy Award winner was born March 27, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey. She was a legendary musician who sung and played multiple instruments including the piano and the organ. Throughout her life she was praised for her knowledge of music and perfect pitch. She was known to never warm up instead she opting to make her performance a novel experience.
