"Recollection" is public sculpture designed and built by Wash-U graduate student, Caitlin Penny, as part of the 2014 University City Sculpture Series. The sculpture is currently located in Kaufman Park, University City

ool of Art and Design. Recollection explores childhood memory and how it fades or changes as we age. The design was inspired by a geodesic dome jungle gym. Using abstraction and subtle optical illusion, the dome shape was altered to reflect how memories can change over time. As you move around the sculpture, the painted screens fade in and out of the background, just as memories may fade. However, the red structure stays in focus, just as some childhood memories always are held dear. Recollection is a bridge between past and present, between adults and children. It is a playful reminder of times gone by as well as a catalyst for the creation of new memories in the present.
