Did you know Kean University has seven active art spaces on the main campus located in Union, New Jersey?

Six art galleries host professional nationally and internationally recognized artists who are involved in solo and group shows, traveling exhibitions, and immersive experiences. Plus, there is a dedicated gallery for our student shows, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their work.

The Galleries at Kean feature work by historical figures, contemporary, and ultra-contemporary artists presenting all types of art. New exhibitions are featured in each gallery twice a year. Kean is also home to an array of outdoor sculptures and an extensive contemporary art collection which is highlighted across campus.

Nancy Dryfoos Gallery
Melissa Stern’s HouseBroken considers the notions of house/home—in all their mixed messages. Each sculpture and drawing riffs on the notions of houses, homes, family, loneliness, connection, security, or escape. This body of work is a loose document of the pandemic years and also stands on its own over time as a visual musing about the nature of “home.”

August 29, 2023 - December 8, 2023
Karl and Helen Burger Gallery

Paintings and installation by contemporary artist Lisa Ficarelli-Halpern recalling the past and reflecting the present.

Surrounded by over a dozen paintings, the centerpiece of the exhibition is a new work called, The Robe of Resilience.

“Robe of Resilience” is an installation of three parts: the silkscreen camouflage print “2022 Commemorative Brocade,” three-dimensional mannequin enrobed in the 2022 Color of the Year, and an accompanying video projected of the wall consisting of photo images mined from the Internet depicting social-political events from 2020-2022.
