Sea turtle nesting season on Tybee Island is coming to an end, but nests are still hatching and Sea Turtle Project Volunteers are still out there every day ensuring every hatchling is accounted for and every nest is monitored until the last day.

After a few ~wild~ or "undetected" nests were found, Tybee's total # of nests for this year is now 58 👏🏼🏆 we will post a full season summary once all nests have hatched and the season has ended 🐢 It is imperative that island visitors continue to leave the beach clean, dark, and flat for the remainder of the nests to hatch successfully.

We couldn't have asked for a better season 🥰 and are so appreciative of the folks who dedicate their time to protecting these amazing animals!

Who says style can't be sustainable🍃? Not Brooke Chase, the latest guest on the TIMSC podcast! Brooke is the host of the Simply B. Sustainable Podcast and co-organizer of Green Drinks Savannah, a gathering for ecologically minded folks on the second Tuesday of every month at various locations.

Brooke always has the best fits, and she talks about how she's committed to buying clothing and household items almost exclusively from Goodwill, Facebook Marketplace, and other thrift spots. Her lifelong drive to reduce waste has inspired her motto of "reuse first, then repair, then refuse, reduce, and recycle," emphasizing that imperfect efforts by many matter more than perfection by a few.

She also shares how she helped revive Green Drinks and describes the event’s growth and rotating topics, including an upcoming Forsyth Park tree walk. Tune in to learn more about Brooke, mindful consumption, and putting together an amazing outfit with pennies!

Color, learn, connect. 🎨
This week's Discovery Shop spotlight 🔦: "The Gullah Geechee Plant Guide Coloring Book" by Mya Timmons! Created in 2022 as part of a Sea Grant funded project led by Elizabeth King, this coloring book highlights culturally significant plants found throughout Georgia's coastal ecosystems, blending conservation education with Gullah Geechee heritage. A beautiful way to learn about coastal plant life, one page at a time. 🌱

🌎❔Where's Westie Wednesday❔🌎

Oh, Westie... You're either zooming around traveling up and down the coast or sticking around in one spot.
It's pretty clear she knows what she wants and is willing to go long distances to find it! These past couple of weeks she has been lingering around in the same general location, which means she has found a great, safe, spot full of good food and good vibes. This makes us so happy!

Thanks for following along with Westie's adventures with us! We've learned so much and hope you have too 🐢

✨ Local Artist Spotlight: DeeDee Long ✨

Every oyster shell keychain, ornament, and magnet in our Discovery Shop with that signature gold edge is handmade right here on Tybee by local artist Devria "DeeDee" Long. DeeDee fell in love with the island back in 2003 and has been turning shells sourced right from Tybee into one of a kind treasures ever since. Since no two shells are alike, no two pieces are either, just like the people of this island she calls home.

Come find your favorite in the Discovery Shop!
