Join us at Confluence Gallery for a panel discussion and audience Q&A exploring the themes behind the exhibition "50 Years of Watching Like a Hawk" on October 29th 5-7 pm. The evening will pivot on a central question: How can art help protect the places we love? Moderated by show curator Perri Lynch Howard, the panel will feature exhibiting artists Fletcher Rickabaugh, Morgan Moomaw, Jess Newlin, and Shaila Tenorio alongside dedicated community advocates, Bruce Morrison, and Rebekah Phillips; with a few more special guests. This conversation will dive into the power of creative expression to spark action, offer clarity, and build hope for the next 50 years of community advocacy. Bring your questions and join the dialogue!

OPEN CALL!
We invite you to contribute to our exhibit “Wabi Sabi: Unexpected Beauty” at The Confluence. The show will run January 12 - February 27, 2027. The Call is open September 16 - November 12, 2026.

Wabi-Sabi: Unexpected Beauty is an exhibition exploring the simple appeal found in imperfection, incompleteness, and impermanence. Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic philosophy of wabi-sabi, this exhibition will showcase art that reflects the passage of time, transformation, or growth and evolution. Unexpected Beauty will also celebrate art inspired by weathered or irregular forms and materials and handmade art that reveals the artist’s imprint.

Curators: Ed McCarthy and Marcy Stamper

Every exhibit at The Confluence has its own life cycle. The work of many hands and a lot of coordination behind the scenes goes into putting on an art exhibit. Jennifer Molesworth shares what exhibit curation at The Confluence is all about …
“Curation is creation! Curation is teamwork.” says Jennifer.

“As a Confluence curator I develop an exhibit’s theme based on topics selected by the gallery’s volunteer Show Committee. Confluence sends my vision in a call out to artists near and far. The artists respond and I curate the work, selecting the pieces that I feel respond to the call.

Then the work arrives! we unwrap the work, and it feels like Christmas morning or my birthday.

The walls are prepared like a blank slate or freshly gessoed canvas and a random heap of work is arranged and rearranged around the room. As work is moved about it begins to vibrate, hum and then when the individual pieces find their space the work begins to sing. It is really like creating a painting or sculpture. There is great satisfaction in working with fellow Show Committee members and seeing the body of work hung up on the walls, harmonizing and singing the theme of the show.

I learn a lot from curating and seeing how artists present themselves and their work. How it’s packaged for delivery to the gallery-how is it framed?, how is the work executed? I learn so much and it’s always exciting.“

Give Methow continues through October 31st! If you’re able, we would appreciate your support to keep the walls singing.
