Are you smarter than a bear?

I sit and watch campers lug their trash to the dumpsters all day every day..

It’s disgusting the amount of trash the average weekend warrior tourist camper generates.. boxes, camping gear, tents, chairs, clothes, bbq grills, smokers.. (really.. 😔)

The dumpsters have “bear proof” latches on them … the local momma bear has figured out how to get into them- so they aren’t all that effective anymore…

If I had to put a number on it- I’d say 2 out of every 10 campers can’t figure out how to open the dumpster…

I watch them try one dumpster and then the next.. they jiggle the chain.. and look around - for what I’m not sure .. possibly for the dumpster fairy to come save them..

True defeat happens when the camper lowers the bag to the ground.. their head follows in shame.. I can feel their humiliation…

Sometimes I’ll jump up and help .. other times I let them flounder..

The medieval torture contraption that makes toast possible off grid…

While I think Jessica & I miss a dishwashing machine more.. the juggling act associated with getting toast out of this thing is getting old..

You gotta flip the bread so it doesn’t burn.. but gentle- so the whole damned thing doesn’t collapse.. cause then you have to save the toast, reposition the arms and not burn the crap out of yourself in the process..


Fridays are busy days for both of us… This one started extra early but the view made it worth while.

At least it’s good s**t.. we haven’t seen rain in months and the forest could use a good soak…

The Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has passed..

Kusama’s art explores repetition, polka dots, and infinity to examine perception and the self. In spite of her mental illness, she transformed hallucinations and obsessive visions into groundbreaking art, transforming personal struggle into immersive beauty.

F&J got to experience her work in 2022 while on our northeast tour… she had work and an installation at the Hirshhorn..
