Art Form or Eyesore? You Decide!

Every freight car has a story to tell…and sometimes that story is written in spray paint.

Boxcar graffiti has long been part of railroad culture. To some, it’s an act of vandalism. To others, it’s a unique form of artistic expression that transforms moving freight cars into traveling canvases seen across North America.

At the Tucumcari Railroad Museum, we invite you to explore this fascinating part of railroading history and decide for yourself.

Many visitors wonder whether the historic Tucumcari Train Depot is haunted. Today home to the Tucumcari Railroad Museum, the depot has long been at the center of local ghost stories and was once featured on the town's haunted walking tour. Built 100 years ago, in 1926 in the Mission Revival style, the beautifully restored depot is closely connected to legends from Tucumcari's railroad boom era. Its haunted reputation even earned national recognition when Main Street America featured the depot in its 'Great American Haunted Main Street' series. https://mainstreet.org/the-latest/news/community-spotlight-2021-great-american-haunted-main-streets
