The Pennsylvania Heritage Festival, a ‘Living History 'family-oriented event that offers something for everyone. The Museum and Heritage Village buildings will all be open with exhibits, demonstrations and tour guides. Hands-on activities and a touch of fall, food and music. FREE ADMISSION
Join us September 17 & 18 at the Heritage Village and Farm Museum (Gate #2 Lane, Alparon Park, Troy, PA) as we celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Gregory Inn a.k.a. the Mitchell house and the current Native American Exhibit both with related special events.
Through the years, it’s been known by many names, most recently, local folks know it as ‘The Mitchell house", but it started as an Inn for stagecoach travelers.
1821– Purchased by Dr. Alfred Parson, he named his farm Alparon. He continued his medical practice into the 1850’s when the railroad became a problem, noisy, dirty, flying sparks. He moved his practice to Troy and the house became a tenant house. His son John retained the home and 2 acres leasing 66 acres of farmland to the newly formed Alparon Park Assoc. to be used as a community park and the Troy Fair moved to this site in 1882.

The property passed through a series of owners: the last to be Harry (Budd) and Florence Mitchell. The Bradford County Heritage Association purchased the property in 1995, and it provides the cornerstone of the Heritage Village.

Stop in and visit with Nathaniel Mitchell, son of Budd and Florence. Learn about the underground Railroad, have your picture taken sitting in the stagecoach, tour the Inn and learn its history.

The Native American Exhibit’s related programs include Susquehanna Jack, the storytelling persona of John L. Moore, a Northumberland writer whose specialty lies in telling true stories about real people who lived on the Pennsylvania frontier. This period of history roughly spans the years of 1600 to 1800. (Saturday only) “John Moore's history presentations create curiosity in children, causing them to ask questions and look for more information. Children love his costumes, artifacts and stories, which are told on their level. We always look forward to his visits." Marjie Pursel, formerly of Children's Services, Priestley Forsyth , Northumberland, Pa.

Rich Gulyas & Terry Lutz will present Native American demonstrations & exhibits, Dave Lennington’s research is on display, The Three Sisters Garden explained by Nancy Menio, Master Gardner, Dream Catchers and beading demo by Chelsea Wagner and a puppet show by Patchwork Gen2’s puppet show “The Escape of the Girls from Penns Creek,”

Listen to the stories of Bob and Mary Frey who join us this year with stories of the RR and Phoebe Snow. Around 1900, the DL&W Railroad launched a marketing campaign around the fictional character of Phoebe Snow to emphasize how the exhaust from its steam locomotives was cleaner ' locomotives, a result of using anthracite coal. The train took its name from the character. Join Bob at the Railroad Shanty for a host of Railroad history and colorful stories.

The Pennsylvania Heritage Festival offers the music of Jacob Gilpin on the Inn front porch, the Heritage Garden Club of Troy who maintain the Heritage Village gardens will provide delicious deserts, in the Civil War encampment check out the open fire kettle soup. Craft, Direct Sales, Flea Market and non-profit vendors. A host of hands-on activities, a scavenger hunt– new this year is the ‘Fishing Hole’ and ‘Broom Sweeping’ contest, all opportunities to learn about our past as demonstrators share their skills. Join us for a real step back in time.
