Trinidad Art Gallery is featuring artists Sarah Magnuson and Annie Reid from September 24 through October 29. All are invited to their opening reception on Saturday September 26 from 5-8 pm, as part of the town-wide Trinidad Art Night. Enjoy snacks, a w**e pour benefitting Trinidad Coastal Land Trust, live jazz by musicians by Duncan Burgess, Fred Neighbor and Bruce ‘Junior’ Johnson and an opportunity to meet many of the gallery's 25 local artists.
Sarah Magnuson creates elegant window hangings of copper faeries and other creatures, adding natural objects, such as crystals that emanate rainbow prisms and volcanic glass that make magical sounds. “Many of my creations are designed to teach their owners about the healing, restorative, and medicinal powers of the herbs after which the fairies wings are shaped”, says Magnuson. After studying jewelry and metalsmithing in college, the artist continued to perfect her craft while exhibiting at large shows. She is a founding member at Trinidad Art Gallery.
A lifelong painter, Annie Reid brings to this exhibit small oils from her studies of ‘Flowers and Light’. The light in Reid’s still lifes emanate from within the flowers, rather than an outside source. “I call these floral portraits the ‘Not so Still Life’, capturing the kinetic energy around each flower. I have watched and painted this light for decades and now find it interesting that quantum physicists recently published findings of a glow detected around all lifeforms.” Reid’s works have been exhibited and collected widely.
Both artists are inspired by nature, and each creates with the purpose of bringing healing, calm and joy into the lives of others. In their unique expressions, they invoke the profound beauty found in simple things.
