We are heartbroken to share that Michael Desforges, owner of The Wooden Gallery (and inventor of the Wooden Gallery process) suffered a sudden stroke and passed away June 1st, 2024, surrounded by family. It’s an understatement to say that he touched many lives; Wooden Gallery pictures have preserved the memories of thousands and thousands of people across the country (and world) over the last five decades. Mike was the definition of an innovator, an inventor, and a visionary — he loved to share with a smile that his granddaughter even called him a genius. He never met a stranger, and genuinely wanted to know the story behind every customer who walked through the doors of his gallery. Mike crafted the fabric of downtown Traverse City for forty years, always supporting his fellow small business owners. He leaves behind a legacy of not only his innovations, but his generosity of spirit.
