🌿 Nearly 200 Years of History — Will You Lend a Hand?

Our friends are asking for help with a cleanup project.

Ebenezer Baptist Church was established in 1835, and the current sanctuary was built in 1917, with an addition in 1953. Generations of families have worshipped here, lived here, gathered here, and been laid to rest in the cemetery beside and behind the church.

Today, Travelers Rest Community Church has taken over the property and is working to give this historic place a renewed role in serving our community.

Through partnerships with the YMCA and a local homeschool co-op, the building is already being put to new use.

Now, it’s time to care for the cemetery—and they need our community’s help.

🪦 COMMUNITY CEMETERY CLEANUP
Saturday, October 17 | 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

There is work for every level of ability!
🌿 Mow the grass
🌱 Tackle weeds and overgrowth
✂️ Trim hedges and branches
🌳 Remove small trees and unwanted growth
🪦 Help clean and uncover historic grave markers
🗑️ Haul away debris
Some grave markers are so overgrown they can barely be seen. There are even baby trees growing out of some of the graves. A few hours of our time can make an incredible difference.

👕 WHAT TO BRING
Please wear old work clothes with long sleeves and pants, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and a hat. You’ll want work gloves and plenty of protection from the elements.

If you're helping clean grave markers, please bring:
A bucket
A scrub brush with natural bristles — no plastic
Work gloves
An old towel for your car
A change of clothes and shoes — you will get wet!
They’ll provide the appropriate cleaner, spray bottles, and disposable gloves for grave marker cleaning.
A shovel, plastic trash bags, or a tarp will also be helpful.

Not able to do physical labor? You can still help! Bring snacks and drinks for the volunteers, lend a hand where you can, or simply come support the effort.
