There's Plenty of Summer Left at French Azilum!
The summer season is only half over at Azilum, Bradford County's premiere historic site, with some of our best events yet to come!
If you have friends or family visiting for the July 4 th weekend, and want to give them (and yourself) a great day out, come to Azilum on Saturday July 5 for our Family Fun Day. Our amazing magician Damien will truly leave you breathless, and kids will be thrilled with the balloon artistry of our 'Båalloon Lady.' Representatives from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be on hand to guide interested folks on nature walks and river clay gathering--see what you can make! New this year will be some law enforcement personnel to visit with the kids, as well as our Historic Scavenger Hunt, and much more. Bring a picnic to enjoy in our pavilion! Special pricing, too, for adults accompanied by a child under 12. Check our website www.thefrenchazilum.com for more details!
Next up is Descendants' Day on July 13, a day we celebrate those families who lived at Azilum and whose relatives still live in the area. Scrapbooks of photos from decades gone by that have been newly organized will be on display in the LaPorte House, so come for a visit, and maybe find an old photo of your grandparents!
August kicks off with our annual Civil War Weekend on the 2nd and 3rd. Watch skirmishes, cooking competitions, mock trials, canon firing and more, both days! Even though no battles in the Civil War were fought in this area, our gallant troops and stalwart Camp Followers bring the past to life with their rendition of life back on the battlefields. You can even visit with them and tour their camp.
Our season comes to a close this year with a new event, Sip and Spin. Learn the basics of spinning fiber as you sip your favorite beverage, either alcoholic or non-alcoholic, and leave with some wool and your very own drop spindle! Led by skilled artisan Joan Hudyncia, details in August!
