Today marked the final day of the We Are Minnesota: Art As Resistance exhibit at the Torrance Art Museum TAM near Los Angeles. The exhibit was curated by Mark Fisher in partnership with the Rebel Loon Archive, ArtYouHeart, and Art Price Studios.
For six weeks, this exhibit showcased work by dozens of artists, many of whom got to see their art in a gallery for the first time.
From St. Paul to the Philippines, artists from down the street and around the world used their talents to speak out against Operation Metro Surge and cruel immigration enforcement tactics. This exhibit brought those voices together.
Motifs of loons and monarchs abounded, and faces we only learned in past tense were memorialized on every wall. Crop art, crocheted hats, 3D-printed whistles, and screenprinted scraps shared formal space with framed paintings.
This was an incredible opportunity for three Twin Cities art organizations to come together: ArtYouHeart, Art Price Studios, and the Rebel Loon Archive have worked in diverse ways to protect our neighbors, to advocate for justice, and to support artists. This exhibit, composed almost entirely of works from these three collections, was a powerful reminder that we truly are stronger together.
And in the spirit of being stronger together, the Rebel Loon Archive is publishing a book of this protest art showcasing nearly 300 artists, many of whom were represented in this exhibit.
