Look Kids! We have the original touch pad for texting. Come to Heritage Days on Saturday, August 29th, 9-3 and you can create a message the way it was done long before phones. It wasn't quite as instant but worked just the same. Stop by the new Kress Building and give it a try.

Our newest building full of new exhibits will be open for Heritage Day, Saturday, August 29 from 9-3. Wonder what flashing rail road lights are doing in the Kress Memorial Building. Come check it out for a walk back in Cedar County's railroad history. You will learn and experience history in an all new way with lots of live displays

Heritage Day is just around the corner. Here is your checklist:
1. On the calendar- Aug. 29th- 9-3
2. No cooking that day- enjoy ribs and pork burgers
3. Veteran’s program at 9. Special events all day.
4. Warm up my voice for the sing-a-long, and bring my instrument
5. Round up the kids and grands- lots of hands on, Wes the Balloon guy, Miss Sara, Cheryl’s kids with games, and maybe some learning about our heritage
6. Rededication of Bed Bug School at noon
7. Steam engine all day!
That’s just a start and I haven’t even mentioned the free pie!! Oh my!!! Just come and bring your list!!!

We are designing another exhibit for the new Kress Memorial Building that will be open for Heritage Day on Aug 29th. Part of the new exhibit is equipment used to harvest ice in the early 20th century (as shown in this picture). The picture is part of the Riley Collection and marked as The Ice Harvest at Godden's Pond. Does anyone know where Godden's Pond is located in Cedar County?

Cedar County Historical Society Annual Meeting and Potluck Picnic
The Cedar County Historical Society annual meeting and summer picnic will be held on Sunday, July 26th at 12:00 noon at the Cedar County Historical Society, Hardman Family Room, 1094 Hwy 38, Tipton, IA.
Everyone is welcome to attend; membership is not a requirement to attend. Those who attend should bring a dish to share. CCHS will provide meat, drinks and dinnerware.
The program will feature an introduction by board member Jeff Kaufmann of the 5 recipients of the Curtis and Frances Frymoyer Scholarships.

Does anyone have an old time table from any railroad or depot that the Cedar County Historical Society could scan. We are putting up a spectacular new exhibit about train travel in Cedar County to be included in the new Kress Building. We would love to show kids how you could take a train to so many other places. If you would like to share a bit of history, please let us know. We will scan your document and return it to you right away.

Did you know that Iowa hosts the LARGEST Barn tour in the entire country?! And that Tenley Farms is a stop on it! We want to invite you this September 19-20 to our farm. Our barn will be open for viewing, we use our barn everyday for agricultural use, so if you’re looking for a barn that is still in use considering adding us to your route!
