Dodransbicentennial Dinner Friday, June 28th,
at Kelley Agriculture Museum.
5:30 pm - 9:30 pm
At the Kelley Round Barn on 31
Please join us, this will be such fun, & for a great cause... preserving our past, for our future, which is imperative, & @ Tipton County Historical Society, that is our #1 priority. If history is preserved & protected, it is ready to be shared & shown (such as our 3rd graders hands on program we do with county elementary classes. ) the Historical Society relies on donations & membership dues, we are not funded by the County, except monies both, to keep the museum cases up in the Courthouse, & supply money yearly, to clean, catalog, & rehouse old County Court cases. So, without your generous support, & events such as this, we would not be able to survive, & be the keeper of the future, Which would be heartbreaking. Step up, & support your Only Historical Society in our County, preserving our past, for our future!
Tickets still on sale until Wednesday at 12 Noon (Wednesday, June 26th) you CAN’T purchase tickets at the door for this event
You can go online at www.tiptonhistorical.com for tickets, or stop in at museum today, 323 W South St (we share the parking lot with the City Pool) from 1-5 pm
Tickets are $40 per person
& includes, appetizers, 1 adult beverage, dinner, dessert, music & dancing, chance to bid at silent auction

Thank you for taking interest in our preservation battle to save our Jail!! We would love for you to join us.

This story about the historic Tipton County, Indiana, jail and sheriff's home in Tipton, Indiana, is a sad reminder that listing in the National Register of Historic Places - NPS does not prevent the demolish of historic buildings. The Tipton County Jail and Sheriff's Home was designed by Adolph Scherrer, who also designed the 1888 Indiana State Capitol and Tipton County Courthouse. The jail and sheriff's home were built in 1894-1895 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places - NPS in 1984. The building is still used as a jail but a new jail is under construction and expected to be finished by the end of the year. A study by the Tipton County Historical Society projected a full renovation of the building could cost up to $1.5 million, including masonry work, new windows and doors, and fixing the roof and drainage problems. The cost to simply demolish the structure rang up to $500,000. It is often the action of committed citizens rather than listing in the National register that saves historic buildings. The Indiana Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology and other National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers members are committed to working with those concerned citizens.
