Happy Wing Wednesday! Killer is very curious by nature. She likes to supervise anytime we're cleaning or doing maintenance in her enclosure!

Columbia River Trading Co. ✨ ARTIST SPOTLIGHT ✨ Found and Rewound

Having grown up among artists and playing in the creeks and woods around her home, Jordan Kim has always had deep love for both art and the natural world. She holds an advanced degree in environmental management and worked for many years as an ecologist before turning her attention full time to her art business, Found & Rewound. Jordan makes paper collages with a twist.

People often describe her work as “painting with paper.” She uses re-purposed paper (junk mail, magazines, packaging, etc.) to create intricate collages and often incorporates hidden
messages into her art. Her debut picture book, “I am the Thirsty Desert,” was published by Mim’s House Books with author Darcy Pattison in March of 2023. Jordan’s mission is to inspire
us to honor our connection to each other and the natural world. Jordan lives in Parkdale, Oregon near Mt. Hood, in the heart of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. You can learn more about Jordan, her artwork, and classes on her website.

As the Discovery Center served local summer schools and camps with our enrichment programming, we partnered with Smokey Bear to help bring his wildfire prevention message to local students. He was a huge hit with the kids while reinforcing the message that “Only you can prevent wildfires.”

It was a wonderful opportunity to help inspire the next generation of stewards of our natural resources while making fire prevention memorable and fun.

Happy Wing Wednesday! Have you ever seen a bird rub its beak on a branch or rock? There's a word for that: feaking! This action serves a dual purpose: it cleans their face and helps them shape their beaks. Just like your fingernails, bird beaks are always growing. Feaking files excess growth down and keeps their beaks sharp!

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who dedicated their time and resources to support our fire abatement project.
