We are expanding again!

Due to the many donations of military memorabilia from the surrounding area and the desire to honor as many Veterans as we can, we have decided to expand the museum again. Just like last time, we’ve had gracious support from Thompson/Thrift (Thank you John and Paul), Overhead Door Company of Terre Haute, Sherwin Williams, Mike Shacklee, and several Vietnam Veterans who have supplied elbow grease to strip wallpaper, skim coat walls, and paint. I would also like to thank Nancy Faulkner for her generosity!!

We will still need to purchase 3) large ceiling fans, 14) 8’ commercial LED light fixtures, a furnace, and a central air unit so if anyone wins the lottery in the very near future, we can help you spend it…😁

As the museum continues to grow, we are wanting to expand the number of days we’re open and we’ll also be looking for more volunteers to help work it.

The attached pictures are progress photos that show where we started in this room and where we are today. We’ve still got a ways to go but we’re chipping away!

For those of you who haven’t been to this museum or maybe haven’t been in a long time, I encourage you to visit. I am probably a tad biased but it is truly a hidden gem in Terre Haute. If you don’t believe me, I encourage you to read all the positive reviews on Google and TripAdvisor left by out-of-towners who have visited.

Coming home to Terre Haute this weekend for Homecoming? Take a little time to discover some of the hometown stories that helped shape our community.

At the Veterans Memorial Museum of Terre Haute, you’ll find hundreds of military artifacts—and, more importantly, the personal stories behind them. One special exhibit is the Gerstmeyer High School Honor Roll, preserving the names of local students who served during World War II, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Whether you’re returning to Rose-Hulman, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, or simply back to Terre Haute, make a stop and connect with a different piece of the community’s history.

One man’s passion became a place where thousands of stories of service are remembered. 🇺🇸

Founded by Brian Mundell, the Veterans Memorial Museum of Terre Haute grew from his lifelong interest in military history and a collection that began after his first trip to Normandy in 2004.

Today, the museum preserves an incredible collection of artifacts, photographs, uniforms and personal stories representing veterans and their service across generations and conflicts.

Take a few minutes to watch this video, hear a little of the story behind the museum, and then come experience this remarkable labor of love for yourself.

✈️ Make a Day of It: History on the Ground & Warbirds in the Sky! 🇺🇸

Before heading out to the Terre Haute Air Show stop by the Veterans Memorial Museum this Saturday from 12–4 p.m. and best of all, admission is FREE!

Explore how airplanes and aviation have played an important role in our nation’s military history.
Then, take that history from the museum to the skies!

✈️ Head to the air show at Terre Haute Regional Airport at Hulman Field, which will be a unique evening show experience, and see some of these famous warbirds flying in person along with the spectacular flying of the Air Force Thunderbirds, a drone show, pyrotechnics and fireworks!

See the history. Then watch it come to life. Make a day of it! 🎖️✈️

The Veterans Memorial Museum is currently open Saturdays from 12–4 p.m., but we’re considering expanding our hours so more people have an opportunity to visit.

As a volunteer-run organization, adding hours depends on having volunteers available—so we want to know when you would be most likely to visit!

🪖 A Lasting Tribute to Those Who Served

Just outside the entrance to the Veterans Memorial Museum, along Historic National Road (US Highway 40) in downtown Terre Haute, a vivid and powerful mural stands behind the names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The memorial honors local service members killed in action in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, representing Vigo, Vermilion, Clay, Sullivan and Parke counties in Indiana, and Clark and Edgar counties in Illinois.

Each name represents a life, a family and a sacrifice that should never be forgotten from the West Central Indiana and East Central Illinois region.

It’s a good day when I can be a part of 19 Vietnam Veterans getting together at the Museum for our bi-weekly Coffee Hour! When I started the museum 14 years ago, I never dreamed it would be a vehicle for this kind of camaraderie…I am truly blessed to be able to do this!

If there are any other who would like to join in, we meet every other Saturday at 9 am at the Museum.
