In the 1953, in response to Temple City's effort to unify the school district, this ad was placed in the newspaper. At the time both Temple City and La Canada were trying to unify their districts, and the Pasadena School District was opposed to their efforts. When the votes were counted, Temple City's was successful at unifying, but La Canada was not successful at unifying until 1961.

This picture was taken in 1957 from the roof of 5809 Rowland Ave. looking towards the intersection of Las Tunas Drive and Baldwin Ave. Have you ever wondered who Rowland Ave. is named for? The first Rowland to settle in the San Gabriel Valley was John A Rowland a prominent settler and ranchero. His legacy includes the city of Rowland Heights and John A. Rowland High School. But what is his relationship to the Town of Temple? John A. Rowland was friends and business partners with William Workman. Workman's daughter married into the Temple family and the Workman family played a big role in the founding of the Town of Temple. The most likely reason that Temple City has a street named Rowland, is that Walter Temple's sister married the grandson of John A. Rowland.

This is a picture of La Rosa School in 1958. La Rosa opened in 1955 and was the last of the elementary schools to open in Temple City. It started out as a K-6 school but became a K-3 school in 1961. La Rosa is still a K-3 school today with students attending 4-6 grades at Cloverly School.

Everyone who went to Temple City High School should recognize this house. It is located on the southwest corner of Temple City Blvd. and Lemon. This craftsman house was built in 1910 and purchased by Miss Erma Prosser. She later married and became Erma Teggatz.
