FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Conversations at The Carson House & Museum Begins with a Hands-On Adobe Experience
Cornerstones Community Partnerships Brings Traditional Adobe Building to Life at The Carson House & Museum
TAOS, NEW MEXICO — The Carson House & Museum invites the public to experience one of New Mexico's oldest and most enduring building traditions during the opening program of its new Conversations at The Carson House & Museum series.
On Saturday, August 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Cornerstones Community Partnerships will present a free, hands-on experience demonstrating the traditional art of adobe making. Visitors are encouraged to stop by throughout the day to observe every step of the process, ask questions, and gain a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship that has shaped Northern New Mexico for centuries.
Adobe is far more than a building material. It reflects generations of knowledge, resourcefulness, and cultural tradition. As The Carson House & Museum begins its own historic preservation and restoration efforts, this program offers a unique opportunity to experience the techniques that continue to preserve some of New Mexico's most treasured historic places.
Presented in partnership with Cornerstones Community Partnerships, a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to preserving historic places, traditional building practices, and the cultural heritage of the American Southwest, the program highlights the enduring importance of adobe construction in protecting New Mexico's architectural legacy. Through preservation projects, educational programs, and community partnerships, Cornerstones has helped safeguard hundreds of historic adobe churches, community buildings, and cultural landmarks across the region.
“Preservation begins with understanding,” said Martin Jagers, President of The Carson House & Museum. “This experience allows visitors to see firsthand the craftsmanship behind traditional adobe construction while gaining a greater appreciation for the work required to preserve places like the Kit Carson House for future generations.”
The adobe experience is the first in a new series of public programs presented as Conversations at The Carson House & Museum. Throughout August, September, and October, visitors are invited to explore the history, traditions, craftsmanship, and remarkable individuals who have shaped Taos and the American West through engaging presentations, demonstrations, and special events. Each program offers a unique opportunity to experience history in the place where so much of it unfolded.
