Fechin adapted the traditional niche by emphasizing angular lines. In this carving of Alexandra, the figure is set within a niche of his own design, which frames it beautifully.

We're thrilled to share that Jonathan Vaughters will be back at the mic for Taos Art Museum's Boots & Bolos Gala on Saturday, August 22.

Around the world, JV is known as a cycling legend and CEO of EF Pro Cycling. Around here, he’s also a Taos Art Museum board member, a gala favorite, and the only person we know who can move from professional cycling to professional hammer-wielding auctioneer without missing a beat.

Join us for a lively evening of dinner, dancing, art, and auction fun, all in support of the Taos Art Museum. JV will bring the charm and quick wit and make it very easy to convince yourself that, yes, you absolutely do need to raise your paddle one more time.

Tickets are on sale now. Get yours before the hammer drops!

This bench, hand-carved by Nicolai Fechin, features a brace inspired by the zigzag form of Navajo lightning. Both decorative and structural, the brace adds strength to the piece, which is held together with traditional wooden joinery.

Joseph Imhoff paints a weathered cottonwood tree, its branches bent and shaped by years of wind and dry conditions. Loose, expressive brushwork gives the tree a sense of movement, capturing the intensity of the region's natural environment.

For Holly Sievers, completing a piece is never the end point, but simply a moment within an ongoing practice of observation and discovery. Each painting and drawing reflects a pause in the process of looking closely, learning, and responding to what she sees. Finished works become both records of attention and reminders of a moment truly observed.
