"When we learned about the Jacob Ari Kamis Contest, Henry was excited to participate in an exhibition devoted to photography. But he was equally drawn to the essay portion, which invited young photographers to reflect on their own personal journeys.

Since the opening reception at Tampa International Airport, we have seen an incredible boost in Henry's confidence—not only in his photography, but in the way he carries himself. I truly believe that came from the contest's ability to connect his personal journey with his artistic journey.

This contest does more than celebrate photography. It shows young people that photography can become a meaningful career. It introduces them to professional photographers, gives them opportunities to exhibit their work in remarkable venues, and allows them to appreciate the work of other young artists who share their passion.

The one thing Henry has said over and over again is that, of everything he has experienced through this contest, the most important lesson was realizing that photography has the power to open doors he never imagined could be opened.

For that, I cannot thank you enough."

As August winds down we close out our Annual Appeal this year raising $19,146 toward our $25,000 goal!!

We can't thank those who donated enough for believing in FMoPA and in the importance of our community.

We still have $5,854 left to raise to hit our goal so if anyone is interested in helping us reach that goal, please visit https://www.fmopa.org/donate

As always, securing funding is becoming increasingly difficult so your ongoing support is what allows FMoPA to remain a vital pillar in our community.

Our September Member Spotlight is Eric Dodds.

"My work is rooted in the quiet moments found within the natural world. Through black-and-white photography, I seek to strip away distraction and reveal the character, strength, and vulnerability of wildlife. The Daily Journey reflects that approach—transforming an ordinary movement across the Amboseli landscape into a study of scale, texture, instinct, and connection. By placing the viewer within the elephants’ path, I hope to create a sense of presence and invite a deeper appreciation for these remarkable animals and the fragile landscapes they inhabit."

Stop by the museum anytime in September to see Eric's work on the wall and read about the story behind the photo.
