It's Miniature Monday! 🤏

This week, we’re taking a look at a Tragic Actor Mask from the Roman Imperial period, dating to around the 1st–2nd century CE. This terracotta sculpture depicts a tragic actor wearing a high knot, or onkos, on top of the wig, a distinctive feature of ancient theatrical masks. 🎭

Masks played an important role in ancient theater, helping actors portray different characters and emotions while making their performances visible to large audiences.
Discover more about ancient art and the stories behind the objects in the Tampa Museum of Art’s collection. 🖼️

Today, the Tampa Museum of Art looks back on a special moment in our history: the 2018 opening of Yayoi Kusama’s exhibition at the Museum.

Kusama’s bold and immersive work has left an enduring mark on the art world, inviting audiences to experience art through repetition, infinity, and wonder. As we remember her remarkable career and contributions, we’re grateful to have shared her work with our Tampa community.

We invite you to join us in looking back at these moments from the 2018 exhibition and celebrating Kusama’s lasting artistic legacy.

RIP Yayoi Kusama.
