What exactly is a "Dango"? 🤔

Jun Kaneko (Japanese-American, b. 1942) has been creating Dangos (meaning 'dumpling' in Japanese) for over 40 years. From tiny to massive, each of these ceramic sculptures is unique. Discover Dangos and more as part of the TMA's current exhibit, Jun Kaneko: Silence Before Sound. 🖼️

Discover timeless artistry at the Museum Store at the Tampa Museum of Art. From beautifully crafted objects to one-of-a-kind artisanal gifts, the store offers treasures inspired by centuries of creativity.

Among the highlights is this exquisite replica of a classical Greek White-Ground Lekythos, attributed to the Inscription Painter and inspired by an original ceramic oil flask from Attica, Greece, dating to the Archaic period, ca. 460–450 BCE.

Every purchase from the Museum Store directly supports the exhibitions, educational initiatives, and community programs of the Tampa Museum of Art.

🧩 A Peaceful Morning at the Museum with “Art on the Spectrum” — Speedy Says “Hi!”

Start your Sunday with a calm and welcoming museum experience at the Tampa Museum of Art during Art on the Spectrum — a sensory-friendly program created for individuals with sensory sensitivities, developmental differences, and their caregivers.

Join us on Sunday, May 31, from 9–11 a.m. as the museum opens early for a quieter, low-stimulation environment where guests can enjoy the galleries comfortably and at their own pace.

Thanks to the generous support of the Autism License Plate Fund and the Autism Services Grants Council, admission is free for participants and their caregivers during program hours.

What to expect:
✅ Free admission for participants and caregivers (9–11 a.m.)
✅ A relaxed, low-crowd gallery experience
✅ Sensory supports, including noise-reducing headphones and sensory tools

When you arrive, simply inform the front desk that you’re attending Art on the Spectrum.

Explore the world of ceramics with our Jun Kaneko-inspired workshops! ❤️‍🔥 | Wednesdays, Jun 3 – 24 | 6:00 – 9:00 PM (4 classes)

This four-week workshop immerses students in the bold forms and graphic surfaces that define Jun Kaneko’s iconic ceramic practice, with participants creating sculptural pieces no larger than eight inches cubed. Drawing inspiration from Kaneko’s monumental approach while working at an accessible scale, this course invites both beginners and experienced ceramicists to explore the dynamic relationship between form, surface, and fire. All materials included. 🔥

Want to strengthen your ability to capture the human figure? Join us at the Tampa Museum of Art! ✏️ | Sundays, May 31 – Jul 12, @ 1:00–4:00 PM

Work in your drawing media of choice while building foundational skills in figure drawing. In this multi-session instructor-guided class, students will learn to capture the character, structure, and movement of the human figure. Create an 18×24” tonal drawing from a live model and sketch sculptures from the museum’s antiquities collection to understand core principles. Each lesson focuses on using simple tools to clearly and effectively communicate the action of the body.

Drawing materials provided. These classes do have live N**e Models.
