It's Miniature Monday! 🤏

This sherd of a ceramic jar is from Ancient Egypt, dating to around 664-30 BCE. This fragment sports a floral pattern painted over a bright green and yellow background. It is made of Egyptian faience, a quartz-based ceramic that emulates the colors of semi-precious stones and metals. This fragment's decoration and colors may have represented the sun, vegetation, and even rebirth in the afterlife. 🏺

Remix is a series of make-and-take art workshops for adults inspired by the Museum’s current exhibitions. This month’s project will be inspired by our “Mysteries of the Nile: Ancient Egypt” exhibition, focusing on creating unique Egyptian-inspired jewelry.

Today's exhibition spotlight✨ is on: "David Hockney: Perspective Should Be Reversed".

Step into the extraordinary visual world of David Hockney!

This exhibition presents more than 140 works spanning six decades by one of the most influential artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Drawn from the collections of the Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, the exhibition brings together prints, collages, photographs, and iPad drawings that reveal Hockney’s endlessly inventive approach to image-making.

From intimate portraits and vibrant interiors to California swimming pools, landscapes, stage designs, and everyday objects, the exhibition explores Hockney’s signature motifs and groundbreaking experiments across printmaking, video, and new media.

Organized by Honolulu Art Museum in partnership with the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation.
