We would like to ask the public if any of you have any pictures of the old gold mine, or the village life that was there many years ago, that we could use in our upcoming exhibit. If you don't want to part with your photos, you could screen shot them or the museum will make a copy so you can hang onto your pictures. Currently we don't have any photos to use. Thank you!

Many people do not know that Tallapoosa used to have a goldmine that for many years was worked and was surrounded by a small village. Not long ago this old mine was reopened and is being actively worked today. Needless to say many old artifacts are being found, including two carts that were used to haul the ore.
These artifacts are the property of the West Georgia Museum, and right now the museum is planning a new exhibit about the mine, but this exhibit will cost money. If you are interested in helping to preserve our history and would like to contribute, you can send your contribution to: The West Georgia Museum, 185 Mann St., Tallapoosa, GA 30176. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Bud Jones, Chairman of the Board
