🎨 A Creative Week in Visual Arts! ✏️

This week, our artists continued building their drawing skills through upside-down drawing and picture plane exercises, learning to slow down, observe, and strengthen their artistic eye.

We also continued our passion projects, with some students painting while others explored carving and creating designs for prints. It’s been so much fun watching each artist discover their own creative style and interests! ❤️🎨

✏️🎨 Hands, Passion & Creativity! 🎨✏️

This week in Visual Arts, we continued our drawing course by using our picture planes to carefully render our hands! It was a fun challenge in observation, proportion, and seeing everyday things in a whole new way. 👋✨

Once the drawing exercise was complete, our artists got to dive into their passion projects—giving them the freedom to create, experiment, and let their own ideas take the lead!

🎨✏️ This week in Visual Arts, our young artists kept building their skills and letting their creativity shine!

We continued our Basic Drawing Course, and everyone was working at their own pace. Some students created their baseline hand drawings, others tackled the vase face exercise, while others continued their upside-down drawings. We even had students beginning picture plane drawings of their hands! ✋🎨

And, of course, our artists made time for their passion projects too! 💕 One student is creating the sweetest little painting of a lamb 🐑, while another is bringing a beautiful vase to life featuring a cherry tree 🌸🍒

This week in the studio, we turned our perspective upside down—literally! 🎨🙃

Our artists continued practicing upside-down drawing, we also explored still lifes, focusing on light, shadow, shape, and texture before diving into passion projects where creativity took the lead.

Art isn’t just about making beautiful things—it’s about learning to see the world in new ways. 💛

🌼✨ What a beautiful afternoon of creativity at the Kern County Library- McFarland Branch! 🎨📚

As part of their Summer Reading Program, young artists painted beautiful dandelions blowing in the wind. 🌬️🌼 It was so much fun watching their creativity and unique personalities shine through in each painting!

A special shout-out to the young men who helped me set up and clean up! 🙌 Your help was so appreciated and made the day run so much more smoothly. Thank you for serving and lending a helping hand! 💛

And to all of our young artists—you all did fantastic! 🎨✨

✏️🎨 Today in Visual Arts, we continued exploring the foundations of drawing—and our students got to see just how much artists can learn by looking at things differently!

We practiced the Blind Contour Drawing technique, challenged our brains with Upside-Down Drawing, and continued working on our creative papier-mâché projects. 🖍️👐🗿

From slowing down and truly observing to embracing the unexpected, today was all about learning that art isn’t always about getting it “perfect”—it’s about seeing, experimenting, and creating! ✨

🌵🎨 We had a prickly good time at the Kern County Library Buttonwillow Branch! 🎨🌵

As part of their Summer Reading Program offerings, artists got creative painting their very own cactuses! 🌵✨ It was so much fun seeing everyone’s creativity shine through as each cactus became completely unique.

A huge thank you to the Kern County Library Buttonwillow Branch for including Paint the Town in such a fun summer of reading, creativity, and learning! Keep reading, keep creating, and keep letting your imagination grow! 📚🌵🎨

🎨✏️ This week in Visual Arts, we continued exploring the fundamentals of drawing while allowing each student to work at their own pace!

Some students began with the Baseline Hand Drawing exercise, while others worked on the Vase/Face exercise or moved on to the challenging practice of upside-down drawing. Using a line drawing by Pablo Picasso of Igor Stravinsky, students turned the page upside down to trick their brains into focusing on lines, shapes, proportions, and the spaces between them rather than the subject itself. The result? A unique way to develop observation skills and create more accurate renderings! 🧠🖊️

After completing their drawing exercises, students moved on to their passion projects. This week, several students were busy sculpting, with some incredible pieces already in the works! 🗿✨

I love watching students grow in confidence as they explore their creativity and develop their own artistic style! ❤️

I had an absolute blast painting with everyone. It was so much fun watching each person’s creativity shine as they brought their beautiful cacti to life. Every painting was unique, and I loved seeing all the different outcomes!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to the Kern County Library for hosting another fantastic community event. I can’t wait to paint with you all again!
