Join ArtRage Gallery on the 6th of June for the opening reception of 25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee. Raising awareness of the global refugee crisis through art. The opening reception will run from 6 to 8 pm, with remarks given at 6:30 pm.

The exhibition selection of the nearly 400 muslin panels that make up the 25 Million Project offered an immersive experience that prompts us to confront the realities of displacement on a profoundly personal level.

On view during the USA’s 250th anniversary, this exhibition will honor Syracuse's identity as a refugee resettlement community while also addressing the USA’s current anti-immigration policy.

The Bandwitts

Hymie and Brandy Witthoft founded The Bandwitts during Brandy’s career in the U.S. foreign service. For seventeen years, they lived in Africa, Central Asia, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Soaking up the local sounds and performing in an array of ensembles, they shared and showcased American roots music along with their original pieces.

Now back stateside, they have a refreshed lineup that includes Hymie on drum set and percussion, Brandy on bass, Jason King on guitar, and Joanne Perry on mandolin. They craft music that crosses genres and uses rich vocal harmonies to tell stories of the shared human experience.

Hymie’s and Brandy’s songs are award-winning, including being recognized for Outstanding Achievement in Songwriting from the Great American Song Contest and being selected as a finalist in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. As a longtime member of the Central New York music scene, Hymie has performed at just about every festival and venue in the region. He has played with the Westcott Jugsuckers for more than 30 years and co-founded The Gonstermachers.

Dr. Sam Gruber, author, historian, and former curator of the Syracuse University Plastics Collection, will lead Plastic in Our Lives, an interactive workshop inviting participants to document the plastic they encounter in everyday life through photography and video.

Participants are encouraged to document their daily encounters with plastic using their phones to take photos or videos. Are we swimming in a plastic world—or drowning in it?

Register for this free workshop on the ArtRage Gallery website and via Linktree, both available in our bio.
